Another Bash on the Backstretch SDW Party Update

We're 97 days away from the first day of inspection for Super Dirt Week! Which means, 100 days away from the 3rd Annaul Club Wago Super Dirt Week Bash on the Backstretch! Just a little bit of information on some of the things going on this year.

Once again we're going to be a Friday only party, starting sometime Friday evening. We hired a brand new DJ this year, and he will shut off the music during the big wheel and hook us up with some announcing during those races so that should make that more organized. We're hoping to have some trophies and a cash prize to the winners of the big wheel race again. Remember, big wheels must have only 3 wheels, at least the front or the back two tires must be plastic, and it cannot be more than 3-feet wide! We're a little concerned about the big wheel count since you have to have one to race this year, so, if you see one and don't want to race at a yard sale or something, buy it and I'll buy it from you at the mile! I know I've been looking and have only found 1 and 1/2 big wheels so far. Anyone that has a big wheel and is going to race let me know too.

We're very excited about our new DJ, his name is DeRue. We enjoyed the past 2 years with the old DJ, but we didn't have his contact information, so it makes it easier this way as we're able to communicate and figure everything out with our new DJ, no hard feelings! He did it for free for us and we truly appreciate him helping us.

We're going to also be giving away prizes this year. Already we've got hooked up with two pit passes to the Short Track SuperNationals, two tickets to Eastern States Weekend, two tickets to the Grandview Speedway 5-25s, two tickets to the Tri-Track Series big block Rocktober race at New Egypt Speedway, along with multiple body panels and other merchandise to give away. We're still looking for ideas on how to give this away, we're looking at possiblity doing something where we sell tickets, people fill them out and we draw the winning ticket later in the night. However, we'd like to do something more creative than that, so if anyone has any ideas let me know!

Of course the Wago Juice will be on hand as well.

Finally, for the first time, we're going to have Bash on the Backstretch Shirts for sale. So far we've learned that people either really love them, or don't like them at all, hopefully they sell okay. Also, remember, all the money that we raise in shirt sales, donations, and any money we'd get if we'd sell tickets for prizes go straight to one of the Club Wago drivers at Super Dirt Week. Last year's money went to Kenny Brightbill.

It's a long way away, but we're already working to make it a fun night. Should be a great year with the return of the Ghetto and always entertaining Voodoo Lounge. Hope to see all you guys 100 days from now!

Craig Von Dohren Stays Hot, Wins TOTH 358 Race

Grandview Speedway hosted the 410 sprints and 358 modifieds on Tuesday night, and there was a familiar face in victory lane. Craig Von Dohren passed Kyle Follweiler late in the event to pick up yet another feature win on the year. Von Dohren is currently one of the hottest drivers in modified racing right now. Von Dohren and Jimmy Phelps seem to be the two hottest drivers on dirt over the last few weeks, Von Dohren added to his total, lets see if Phelps can do the same this weekend.

Alan Johnson won at Brewerton Speedway in a brand new car, as he will be driving for Jake Spraker in weekly action for the rest of the season. The team only has 1 car, so they don't plan to run the Dirt Tour, but plan to make a few Dirt Series and other special event races on top of weekly action. Don't expect to see Johnson in his/Wallace Stacey's equipment for the rest of the season unless major problems occur with the 1J. This information has come from DirtTrackDigest.com.

As for mid-week shows this week, Grandview Speedway will run a $2,500 to win race for small block modifieds on Tuesday, June 29. Also, on July 1st, the big block modifieds of the BRP Modified Tour will travel to Ohio to invade Expo Speedway and the 358 Dirt Tour will invade Autodrome Edelweiss. Also this weekend, Ransomville Speedway will have a $5,000 to win small block modified event on Friday, and the Super Dirt Series invades Rolling Wheels Raceway on July 4th.

Phelps and Von Dohren Take Big Wins

Back to back nights of Super Dirt Series action saw some great racing both nights. On Tuesday, Craig Von Dohren put on a clinic coming from 23rd to win with his small block modified. On Wednesday, Jimmy Phelps survived a crazy night at Orange County to win Brett Hearn's Big Show 2. A scary accident took place around the half way mark of the Big Show, as contact between Jerry Higbie and Danny Johnson on a restart while battling for second sent Higbie hard into the wall, and left him sitting sideways as the field broadsided him multiple times. Mark Flach took a scary flip down the front stretch, Tim Fuller, Chris Shultz, Rick Laubach, Paul Gilardi, and Tommy Sears were just some of the cars heavily involved. Thankfully, everyone was okay. Here's the top 5 from both nights.

Grandview Speedway (Super Dirt Series)

3rd 77x Dale Planck

3rd 1 Stewart Friesen

Danny Johnson was in the Sherlock Motorosports owned #10 modified last night. Johnson drives for the team every Friday night at Accord Speedway. Look for Johnson to run the Dirt Series races at some of the bigger motor tracks like at Lebanon Valley Speedway and at Super Dirt Week. Johnson will still drive the Mike Payne 27J at a majority of the tour races.

Sportsman star Brad Brightbill will make his first big block start of the year this Saturday as he'll run his dad's #19 big block modified at Delaware International Speedway.

Gary Tomkins, who was in the Tuit Racing 673 on Wednesday night at Orange County Fair Speedway, will officially drive the Ken Brewer Racing 00B the rest of the year. Tomkins will run the car at Five Mile Point on Saturday nights, but it might not be every week. He'll also run the rest of the RoC Tour for the team. Jim Gabriel will continue to drive the team's second car.

Mother Nature Claims Fonda Midweek Special; Rescheduled for Tomorrow (Thursday)

Fonda Speedway's big block modified $3,000 to win race has been postponed until tomorrow due to rain. The All-Star 410 sprints will be on the card with the modifieds.

Howard Takes Clash Thriller; Brian Weaver Reunites with Decker

Duane Howard picked up the win after a thrilling battle all race long with Danny Johnson and Brett Tonkin. By the way, for those of you wondering, Danny Johnson was in the Mike Payne Racing car last night. Looks like pete was right in the chat box, thank again Pete. Here's the top 5 in race #3 of the RoC Dirt Tour at Penn Can Speedway..

Club Wago ticket giveaway for New Jersey Motorsports Park Big Block Modified June 20th race

Club Wago has tickets to give away for the June 20th New Jersey Motorsports Park big/small block modified race thanks to Jeff Withey from Area Auto Racing News. Shoot me an e-mail with why you think you should be the one to get the tickets, first place will receive 4 free tickets, second will receive two, and third place will receive one. My e-mail is Jman97531@aol.com. Top 3 will be selected on Thursday, June 10th sometime in the evening. Thanks again to Jeff Withey!

There really aren't any rules to this. You can tell me a sob story that you can't afford to go unless you get the money, you can tell me about how you're a huge fan, you can tell me that you want to take 3 friends to their first race, but they'll only come with if it's free to get in, etc etc, just make me believe that YOU'RE the one that deserves the tickets over anyone else!

Mitch Gibbs Done for the Year

Mitch Gibbs is done for the 2010 season. Gibbs has decided he needs some time off, and will focus on regrouping for the future. Jim Gabriel has been driving the Ken Brewer car more often, and you can expect to see a former Super Dirt Series champion in the car tomorrow at the RoC Dirt Tour race at Penn Can Speedway.

Past Weekend Winners

Rain finally came back in a big way this weekend, all modified action from Sunday was rained out. Lernerville gave modifieds the night off as the All-Star sprints were on the card. Rain also led to the cancellation of a bunch of shows on Saturday as well. Here's a look at this week's winners.

For those of you that haven't heard, Danny Johnson and Mike Payne will no longer run weekly together, but, according to "pete" in the chatbox, the duo will continue to run the tours together. Johnson will run for Randy Sherlock the rest of the season at Accord Speedway. On Saturday night, Johnson was in the second Randy Chrystler owned car, no word if Danny and Chrystler will team up anymore this season. Also, I'll be making my announcing debut on June 15th at Grandview Speedway for the Super Dirt Series big block modified event. Hopefully nobody's ears start bleeding from it!

Howard Invades New Egypt and Wins

Duane Howard invaded New Egypt, making his first start of the year in Thursday night's big block modified $3,000 to win special event. Steiner Out; Watt New Ride; Sleeping on RJ; Other Tidbits

Well, I must've been sleeping, because I completely missed that Ronnie Johnson has been named the driver of the Grasso Racing #19 modified for weekly action at Accord Speedway. He's been running the car the past 2 weeks, and was named the driver at the start of the season.

Ryan Watt will return to weekly action at Big Diamond Raceway, as he will be teaming up with HP Motorsports, whom he drove for last year. Watt will continue to run the Ron Roberts Racing #14w at Bridgeport Speedway. HP Motorsports originally had partnered up with Troy Wink, but the two parted ways and Wink is now driving for himself.

Tony Steiner is suffering from a knee injury that will force him out of action for a few weeks. Shawn Donath, who had been named the driver of Steiner's second car, will run the car on a much more regular basis now. Shawn's brother, Shane Donath, will run the second car in a part-time deal.

Look for Joey Grammes to have a second car at next week's RoC Dirt Tour with a multiple time Penn Can Speedway champion behind the wheel.

Also, Michael Weinert made his modified debut last weekend at Big Diamond Raceway. Look for Weinert to run a handful of modified races the rest of the year.
