SDW Tidbits/Weekend Schedule

The Super DIRT Week XL schedule has now been released and is posted on SuperDIRTWeekonline.com

Both Brian Swarthout and Tony Steiner have announced they'll be running Super DIRT Week with both a big block and a small block this year. Swarthout fielded a car for Alan Johnson last year at Syracuse, which means Johnson is once again currently left without a ride for SDW.

Ryan Godown has also confirmed his plans to run at Super DIRT Week with a big block this year.

Gary Tomkins/Rick Clay Racing Tidbits

Craig Revelle reports on DTD that Gary Tomkins will be in the Mike Petruska 66 car on Wednesday (tonight) night at Fonda Speedway and will also be in action on Saturday in that car at New Egypt Speedway. Danny Johnson will be at both events in the Mike Payne Racing 27J, so as far as I know, he's still in the car, but that's looking to be more and more in question. We'll see.

Rick Clay Racing's 88c big block modified will have a different driver than usual in the car this Saturday. Billy Pauch Jr is a weekly runner at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday nights in the 358 sprint division where he is currently in the top 5 in points, so he will not be racing in the $15,000-to-win Friends of Mike race at New Egypt Speedway this Saturday. So, his big block ride, the Rick Clay team, will have a different driver behind the wheel. Currently, it appears that Doug Manmiller will be the driver of the car for the event, although it's not completely official. Johnny Guarino is the other driver being considered for the ride, as he is currently awaiting engine repairs on his own #9.

Friesen Wins Diamond

Stewart Friesen picked up the $5,000 win at Big Diamond (and also led the $200 Club Wago Half Way Award) after passing Doug Manmiller in the middle stages of the race. He then held off challenged by Jimmy Horton, Ryan Godown, and Duane Howard to collect the victory.

Big Diamond Speedway (RoC Dirt Tour $5,000 to win)
1st 1 Stewart Friesen
2nd 4 Duane Howard
3rd 20 Brett Hearn
4th 26 Ryan Godown
5th 27J Danny Johnson

Tonight Fonda Speedway is in action as the Thunder Series has their second race of the season.

Also, I want to extend a thank you to everyone that donated during the helmet drive last night. We raised $942.13 to go towards the Kyle Pagerly Memorial Fund, I can not thank you all enough!

Mid-Week Specials

There are three big mid-week shows coming up this week, here's what's on tap...

July 26 Big Diamond Speedway (Roc Dirt Tour)
July 27 Fonda Speedway (Thunder Series)
July 28 Utica Rome Speedway (Thunder Series)

We will be at Big Diamond early and tailgating, so if you see us please stop on by and say hello!

Not sure how many of you guys know this, but my uncle (dad's brother) is Berks County Pennsylvania Sheriff Eric Weaknecht. One of Eric's deputy's, Kyle Pagerly, was shot and killed in the line of duty on June 29, 2011. Kyle was a true American hero in every sense of the word. On top of being a Berks County Deputy Sheriff and a leading member of the K-9 Unite, he served time overseas with the United States Army, and was also a volunteer firefighter. Just a few weeks before his untimely passing, Kyle's wife had told him that she was pregnant with the couple's first child. Kyle was only 28 when he passed away. Tonight, at Big Diamond, we've been granted permission by Brett Deyo to have a helmet drive at some point during the racing event. All donations with go to the Kyle Pagerly Memorial Fund, so, as a favor, I'm asking you guys to give a donation tonight during the helmet drive. I'd truly appreciate it, every little bit counts. Thank you guys! See you all tonight.

Bunch of Tidbits

Sorry guys for the lack of updates lately, things are still pretty busy over on my end. I'll try to do a better job of keeping up.

As I'm sure you guys know, Cayuga County Fair Speedway has tentatively ended their points season, naming Jimmy Phelps the 2011 Cayuga County Fair Speedway champion. The facility may reopen later in the season, and will for sure open for the Super DIRTcar Series race on September 4th, and also for the 358 DIRTcar Series race during Super DIRT Week on October 5th.

Jimmy Chester has been driving the Wescott Racing #71 big block modified formally driven by a bevy of drivers. Chester and the team will run a limited schedule the rest of the year. Jimmy's own #44 team will be debuting soon, running weekly at Delaware International Speedway. Chester's 16-year old son will run a second big block car as well.

I see a lot of people asking about Danny Johnson and the Mike Petruska team. Billy Pauch drove for Mike Petruska at Bridgeport Speedway for the twin-25s last Wednesday, but that was only because Danny Johnson was racing at Granby that night. It was a one-off deal for Pauch. The Petruska Race Team had previously planned to not run the Quebec races, which is why Johnson was driving for Mike Payne at those events. Johnson is still with the Petruska team, and he will continue to split his time the rest of the year between the Mike Payne team, and the Mike Petruska team.

Stewart Friesen will drive for Blewett Motorsports at the Friends of Mike event at New Egypt Speedway, teaming with Jimmy Blewett for the race. There are quite a few drivers expected to invade the Friends of Mike race, as Orange County will be running small blocks that night instead of big blocks, and Grandview will be running in a non-points event. Canandaigua also has off that night.

Bob McGannon, who picked up the feature win a few weeks ago at Orange County Fair Speedway, has announced he'll make another assault on Super DIRT Week with his big block modified in October.

Clinton Mills will no longer be an Orange County Fair Speedway regular. Mills and the Gary Edwards Racing #21 team will be running a specials-only schedule the rest of the year, starting at Fonda Speedway for their Thunder Series race coming up. Mills will continue to drive his own #43 at Accord on Friday nights.

Dickie Larkin returned to competition last night. He will compete in all the 358 events at Lebanon Valley Speedway this season, driving for Steve Daniels. Larkin was running in the top 5 when he dropped out of the event after starting deep in the field.

Doug Manmiller has parted ways with the Roger Updegrove Racing big block modified team he's been driving for over part-time over the last 7-seasons. Ray Swinehart has been announced as Manmiller's replacement. Manmiller still plans on entering select big block events with the Josh Biever Racing small block he runs weekly at Grandview Speedway.

Colt Harris will be on vacation next week, so veteran Danny Erb will drive the family-owned Colt Harris crown7 at Big Diamond Speedway in Tuesday's RoC Dirt Tour event.

Gary Balough's Super DIRT Week car is about $10,000 short on making it onto the track this tear. Balough worked over the winter on a home-built car to tackle the mile and hoped to land a big name driver for Super DIRT Week.

Zach Aubertine drove Mike Mandigo's small block modified on Friday night at Can Am. Engine problems on Aubertine's zero3 modified forced him to borrow the Mandigo car. Aubertine plans on running his own equipment this Friday night.

Raabe Wins Mohawk, Tidbits, Highlights, Schedule, Win List, Little bit of Everything Today!

All I can find from last night's small block race at Mohawk International Raceway is that Chris Raabe picked up the feature win. Raabe now has 6 wins on the season.

Matt Harrell will miss a few weeks of action at New Egypt Speedway after engine problems have plagued the Steve Gray owned #43 team. Harrell hopes to run the Cayuga County Super DIRTcar Series race in September again with the family-owned #35.

The reason for Robbie Krull and Dan Miller Racing splitting is that Krull wanted more control over set-ups with the car. Larry Lampman has returned to the seat of Miller's #22.

Vinnie Vitale is the latest driver to confirm his intentions of running the SEF 200 at Super DIRT Week.

Sharon Speedway has added 358-modifieds to their Friday night card. Starting this week until September 2nd, every other week the 358-modifieds will be in action on Friday nights at Sharon, the big blocks will continue to run on Saturday nights.

Lots of highlights this week with lots of exciting finishes, remember, click the track to view the highlights...

At Big Diamond Speedway it was Jeff Strunk who used a late race pass on Andy Burkhart to pick up his first win of the year at Diamond.

Chuck Bower picked up the popular victory at Brewerton Speedway

At New Egypt Speedway it was Billy Pauch who won with a last-lap, last-turn pass of Ron Jon Koczon.

Check out the fantastic finish at Mahoning Valley Speedway between winner Kris Graver and defending track champion Randy Thomas.

Billy Decker continued his fantastic season with a win at Fulton Speedway

Grandview Speedway saw Kevin Hirthler win a classic late-race Grandview battle.

Justin Haers finally was able to put his big block modified in victory lane at Canandaigua Motorsports Park

Big Diamond Speedway was in action on Saturday with Billy Pauch Jr picking up the $4,000 win.

Rolling Wheels Raceway saw a fantastic finish with Matt Sheppard holding off Danny Johnson at the line.

Now, the Fast 23 Fast Track highlights,

Bobby Varin won a big 50-lapper at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park

Ronnie Johnson picked up his 4th win of the year at Fonda Speedway

Neil Stratton picked up his first career modified win, and won $4,000 for it at Lebanon Valley Speedway
