Points Battles; Weekend Schedule

Three more champions will be crowned this weekend, as Georgetown, RPM, and Humberstone have their final points races of the season this weekend. Here's the current top-5 in points at both tracks...

1H David Hebert -58

63 Dominic Dufault -87

Humberstone Speedway
25 Erick Rudolph
6 Mat Williamson -42
17 Chris Steele -70
72 Tommy Flanninga -74
12 Chad Chevalier -96

DJ and Friesen Split Twin 50s at Utica

Just a quick one tonight, sorry guys. Here's the top-5 finishers from both features...

Utica Rome Speedway (RoC Dirt Tour Twin 50s)
Feature #1
1st 1wgc Stewart Friesen
2nd 9s Matt Sheppard
3rd 99L Larry Wight
4th 2 Ronnie Johnson
5th 4 Mike Mahaney

Feature #2
1st 66 Danny Johnson
2nd 98H Jimmy Phelps
3rd 9s Matt Sheppard
4th 4 Mike Mahaney
5th 4* Tim McCreadie

The win was Johnson's 15th, and Friesen's 10th career RoC Dirt Tour wins. With the win, Friesen surpassed Bobby Varin for second on the all-time win list. Ironically enough, he also was able to surpass Varin in RoC Dirt Tour points. Next race for the series will be the King of the Catskills at Accord Speedway on September 20th.

Johnson Brothers News; Syracuse Update

We now have confirmation that Danny Johnson and Tyler Siri have parted ways. Johnson still has his own #27J small block modified, which he will run at Canandaigua and select 358 specials, and will run a specials-only schedule with the Mike Petruska 66 team, including Super DIRT Week. Expect to see Tyler Siri do some end of the year traveling with his own team.

Alan Johnson, on the other hand, is still with Kenny Saya Racing--although they may be done for the 2013 season. After multiple engine failures, the team is down to just 1 big-block in their shop, and hope aren't sure if they want to risk blowing that one.

Now, onto Super DIRT Week, which is just 7 weeks away. Both Bobby Varin and Chad Brachmann have announced they will run Syracuse with special teams, and there are quite a few teams that could potentially have openings with Super DIRT Week approaching.

Jake Spraker Racing: Spraker was hoping to run Syracuse with Bobby Varin after parting ways with Stewart Friesen, however, Varin had already committed to the new team he will be racing at Syracuse with. Spraker has not run Syracuse since 2008 with Varin, but has the equipment. Despite a slew of calls from desperate drivers, Spraker will more than likely be in Varin's pit stall helping out. If he'd choose to field a car, expect J.R. Heffner to land the ride.

Nick Noll Racing: Noll has been quiet this year, but always seems to show up at Syracuse. Kevin Bates has driven the car the last few years, but Noll had conversations with Billy Pauch Jr about returning to the car earlier in the season. I haven't heard anything in regards to this car, so expect Bates to return.

Gary Mann Motorsports: Mann had his equipment ready to tackle with mile with Jerry Higbie, but Higbie left the team a few weeks ago. Mann has tabbed Anthony Perrego as the driver of the 55 for the rest of the year, but Perrego will not be running the car at Syracuse. The team may sit out Super DIRT Week this year, but Mann don't count out Mitch Gibbs from landing this ride. He ran very well for Mann at Syracuse in the past, and Gibbs and Mann remain good friends.

Here's a look at the updated Syracuse big-block and small block rosters... still have a lot of driver's to talk to, so don't be alarmed at the current number...

Pauch and Murdick Split Tuesday Wins

A busy Tuesday night saw 2 mid-week shows on the schedule.

New Egypt saw their top-2 points men, Billy Pauch and Ryan Godown put on another battle at the front of the field, but it was Billy Pauch who ended up winning the battle and notched his 4th win of the season. Here's the top 5...

New Egypt Speedway (Big Blocks $3,000 to win)
1st 1 Billy Pauch
2nd 747 Ryan Godown
3rd 29 Sammy Piazza
4th 71 David Van Horn
5th 76 Jimmy Blewett

A crazy night for the BRP Tour at Sharon Speedway saw most of the field collected in an early accident that was triggered when then race leader Rex King made contact with the wall and flipped in front of the field. Brad Rapp came out of the wreckage with the lead, but red-hot Dave Murdick was able to pass Rapp just before the half-way point, and held off a hard charging Chad Brachmann for the race win. The win should move Murdick into second in points, as Kevin Hoffman finished 6th. Here was the top-5.

Sharon Speedway (BRP Tour)
1st 61 Dave Murdick
2nd 3 Chad Brachmann
3rd 98H Jimmy Phelps
4th 19w Justin Wright
5th 11R Brad Rapp

26 modifieds were in attendance and New Egypt, and 36 big-blocks filled the pits at Sharon.

The win was Pauch's 5th of 2013, and Murdick's 6th of 2013.

Tomorrow the RoC Dirt Tour will be in action at Utica Rome Speedway for twin 50s, which each will pay $5,000 to win.

Mid Week Schedule; More Varin News; More Johnson News; Syracuse tidbits

This week's mid-week specials kick off with 2 big races tonight (Tuesday.) At Sharon Speedway the BRP Big Block Series invades for the annual "Lou Blaney Memorial." Chad Brachmann heads into the event as the points leader over the veteran Kevin Hoffman.

New Egypt Speedway will also host the big-blocks as they battle it out for $3,000 as part of the "Jersey Rush." Sprint car star Davey Sammons will strap into a big-block modified, while Neal Williams and Ryan Godown will make their 410 sprint car debuts.

Tomorrow, the RoC Dirt Tour invades Utica Rome Speedway for their annual Tribute Race, while will feature twin-50 lap features for the big-blocks. Bobby Varin leads the man he replaced with Jake Spraker Racing, Stewart Friesen, by just a few points heading into Utica Rome.

Speaking of Bobby Varin, he's the latest driver to confirm his Syracuse plans. Varin will enter the SEF 200 with a brand new team. More information will be released as we get closer to Super DIRT Week.

Dom Buffalino has also confirmed that he will be in attendance at Syracuse this year. A new car and motor has been purchased for his maiden attempt at the SEF 200. Michael Bros. Racing will field the car for Buffalino.

Dan Humes, who has yet to race this season, has confirmed that he is getting his big-block rebuilt and will also be racing at Syracuse. Look for the team to shake the car down a few times before Syracuse.

Zach Aubertine also has confirmed he'll be racing at Syracuse in the small block divison.

It appears the Kenny Saya team may be done. The team, which won the Jan Corcoran Memorial this season with Alan Johnson at the wheel, has struggled with mechanical issues all season long. Johnson drove the Andrew Sittler Racing #14J small block to the win at Canandaigua on Saturday night. Johnson also still has the Dave Allen owned #14J at his disposal, which he runs Sundays at Utica Rome.

Speaking of the Johnsons, Danny Johnson was again not in the Tyler Siri owned #5* at Canandaigua on Saturday night, but we still do not have confirmation that the 2 sides have split.

Varin Returns to Spraker; Brachmann Lands Ride & Other Tidbits

Bobby Varin will return to one of his more prominent rides in this Wednesday night's RoC Dirt Tour event at Utica Rome Speedway. Varin will replace Stewart Friesen aboard the Jake Spraker Racing #1J for the remainder of 2013, running a specials only schedule. Spraker's team had been running weekly at Albany-Saratoga with Friesen, but has yet to pick up a win in 2013. A practice crash Thursday night at Lebanon Valley resulted in the combination splitting, opening the door for Varin.

Varin will remain with Erik Nelson's #85 team for the remainder of the season at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, where he currently leads points. Varin also will run select races for Joey Decker Racing and Dover Brake Motorsports to close out the year.

Chad Brachmann will be making his return to the Syracuse mile this October, as he plans on attending Super DIRT Week with a big block and a small block at his disposal. Brachmann will be aboard his own #3 in the Salute to the Troops 150, but has landed a ride for the SEF 200. The plan is to not announce the new ride until the car is at inspection Tuesday at Super DIRT Week.

Jimmy Horton, who had already confirmed his plans to run Syracuse with a big block, has now confirmed he'll have a 358 for the Salute to the Troops 150 as well. Both will be for Dieter Schmidt Racing.

Lance Willix, who recently returned to the seat after missing a few weeks for emergency surgery, has confirmed he'll be at Syracuse with a big block.

Weekend Recap

First of all, sorry for the lack of updated towards the end of last week, we were at Lebanon Valley on Thursday and Ransomville on Friday, which usually isn't an issue--except neither hotel we stayed at had internet available.

We're still waiting on results from Evans Mills and Sportsman's, but I wanted to get an update on here as soon as I could. I'll update this post with the results as they become available.

We'll have some tidbits a little later today, but here's this past weekend's top finishers and the updated win list...

SEF 200 Tidbits; Johnson and Siri Split? Fonda to Crown Champ

With Super DIRT Week now just 8 weeks away, the SEF 200 will see some tweaks to the rules in 2013. An official announcement should be coming soon, but look for the 200 to return to it's old format with no mandatory pit stop, and also expect less strict tire rules at the mile in 2013.

It appears as if Danny Johnson and Tyler Siri have parted ways. While we are awaiting confirmation, Tyler Siri will return to the seat at Canandaigua on Saturday nights. Johnson does have his own small block modified, which he will be running at Ransomville this Friday night, and also has the Mike Petruska 66, which he will be running at Lebanon Valley on Thursday.

Fonda Speedway will crown their 2013 track champion this Saturday night. Stewart Friesen has his second consecutive Fonda title locked up, but here's a look at the top-10 in points...

1st 1 Stewart Friesen
2nd 3D Matt DeLorenzo -104
3rd 93 Danny Varin -110
4th 2 Ronnie Johnson -136
5th 21 Mike Mahaney -165
6th 41 Jimmy Davis -176
7th 24 Jeremy Wilder -180
8th 3 Mark Kislowski -182
9th 20c Craig Hanson -202
10th 17 Elmo Reckner -236

Remember, tonight Utica Rome Speedway hosts a rare Wednesday night weekly show for the modifieds.

Sammons to run Modified; Mid-Week Schedule

Sprint car star Davey Sammons will make his dirt modified debut on August 20th at New Egypt Speedway as Ryan Godown will offer his back-up to Sammons. In return, Godown will pilot a second Sammons 410 sprint entry. The modified portion of the event will pay $3,000 to the winner.

A pair of mid-week races are on tap for this weekend. On Wednesday, Utica Rome Speedway will host a weekly event to make-up for the rainouts that they've suffered through this year.

Then, on Thursday, Lebanon Valley Speedway will host the third crown jewel race of 2013, as the Super DIRTcar Series invades for the $17,500 to win Mr. DIRT Track USA event.

The weekend schedule (which will be posted here later in the week) will be highlighted by the 4th crown jewel race of 2013, as Ransomville Speedway hosts the $13,000 to win Alex Friesen Summer Nationals. The first 2 crown jewel events were the $10,000 Victoria 100 held at Utica Rome Speedway in May which was won by Jimmy Phelps, and last week's $10,000 to win Forrest Rogers Memorial at Grandview Speedway which was won by Duane Howard.

Quick Recap & Notes

The "Battle of the Bullring" at Accord, and the Super DIRTcar Series at I-96 Speedway filled Tuesday with racing action. Here's the top-5 from both tracks...

I-96 Speedway (Super DIRTcar Series $7,500 to win)
1st 20 Brett Hearn
2nd 9s Matt Sheppard
3rd 49 Billy Dunn
4th 98H Jimmy Phelps
5th 84 Gary Tomkins

Accord Speedway (51 laps $5,100 to win)
1st 11 Danny Creeden
2nd 6x Jackie Brown
3rd 34 Andy Bachetti
4th 55L Rick Laubach
5th 42p Pat Ward

There were 20 cars in attendance at I-96, and 46 at Accord.

Not a whole lot to report, as we had previously reported, at Accord Mike Gular was aboard the Jim Reid 611, Kenny Tremont piloted a second Jackie Brown entry, Rick Laubach drove a second Gary Mann entry, and Mike Ricci drove the Randy Sherlock owned 10 small block machine. At I-96, Michael Storms made his first start of the year aboard the back-up Brett Hearn machine.

Hearn's win now gives him 113 career Super DIRTcar Series wins. With his win at I-96, he now has wins at 48 tracks in his career.

Hearn retakes the Super DIRTcar Series points lead from Matt Sheppard as they head to Lebanon Valley Speedway for Mr. DIRT Track USA on Thursday, August 15th.

Perrego in at Mann; Michael Storms Note

Sportsman standout Anthony Perrego has been tabbed the full-time replacement at Gary Mann Motorsports, replacing Jerry Higbie who parted ways with the team a few days ago. Perrego will pilot the car weekly at Accord Speedway on Friday nights, and the temporary plan is to run his sportsman car at Orange County on Saturdays. His first start in the Mann 55 car will be tonight at Accord (Rick Laubach will pilot a second entry from the Mann team.)

Perrego is working on deal with another team that would see him enter end of the year small blocks shows as well.

As noted previously, Michael Storms will make his first start of the season tonight in Super DIRTcar Series action at I-96 Speedway in a second Madsen Motorsports/Brett Hearn entry. Storms also plans to enter the Eastern States 200 in a second Hearn entry.

4th 71 Mike Bowman
5th 6 Mat Williamson

A field of 41 cars assembled at Merrittville, as DIRT continues their trend of strong car counts.

The win was the 27th Super DIRTcar Series win of Sheppard's career, which now ties him with Steve Paine for 7th on the all-time win list.

Both Danny and Alan Johnson were not in their normal rides. Alan Johnson was aboard the Andrew Sittler Racing #14J while Danny Johnson drove his own small block. Danny will return to Tyler Siri's 5* tomorrow night at I-96.

Speaking of I-96, look for Michael Storms to pilot a second Brett Hearn entry in tomorrow's $7,500 to win race.

Two big races are on the schedule for tomorrow (Tuesday.) The Super DIRTcar Series returns to I-96 Speedway in Michigan for a $7,500 payday, while Accord Speedway hosts the first "Battle of the Bullring" which will pay $5,100 to win the 51 lap feature.

Higbie Out Laubach In; Perrego Notes; Schedule Updates

Defending Orange County Fair Speedway big-block champion Jerry Higbie has parted ways with car owned Gary Mann. Higbie was piloting Mann's #55 modifieds weekly at Accord Speedway, while also hitting select specials. Higbie has collected a couple of wins with the Mann team at Accord this season, including this past Friday.

For Tuesday's $5,100 to win Battle of the Bullring, Mann has hired Rick Laubach to pilot one of 2 cars that will be entered. Sportsman standout Anthony Perrego was previously announced to run a second Gary Mann for the race. No word on a full-time replacement for Higbie, although Mike Ricci's name has been thrown around now that Mike Wells has returned to the seat of the 831, leaving Ricci rideless. Mitch Gibbs has also been mentioned.

As far as Higbie, along with having his own #97 equipment, rumors are swirling that he will return to the Mike Petruska Racing #66. The team has ran a couple of races with Danny Johnson since parting ways with Bobby Varin.

Look for Perrego to do select modified racing towards the end of the year. He will enter a back-up Randy Sherlock Racing #10 in hopes of qualifying for the Eastern States 200, and is also working on finalizing a 358 ride for select end of the year races.

Big Diamond has announced the "Prelude to the Coalcracker" on August 23rd. The 30-lapper will pay $4,000 to win.

Glen Ridge Motorsports Park has also announced their biggest race of the season will take place on September 7th. The 60-lap feature will pay $4,007 to the winner.

Speaking of schedules, there are 3 mid-week shows this week. First, tonight (Monday) the Super DIRTcar Series invades Merrittville Speedway for the annual Bob St. Amand Memorial. Tomorrow (Tuesday) a pair of big races are on tap. The Suer DIRTcar Series heads to Michigan as they invade I-96 Speedway for a $7,500 payday, while closer to home, Accord Speedway will host the "Battle of the Bullring" which will pay $5,100 to the winner of the 51-lap event.

Weekend results and the updated win list will be posted tonight.
