Weekend Round-up; Varin Thunders Ahead; Higbie Invades Heath Memorial; Shingledecker Wins Debut

Well, Mother Nature was a big winner again this week, this past weekend Friday was the day that got hurt the worst. Here's the recap from this past weekend, Friday, June 26th, Saturday, June 27th, and Sunday June 28th.

On Friday night, big block modifieds debuted and made their only appearance of 2009 at Raceway 7 Speedway and Jeremiah Shingledecker picked up the big feature win. In other big block from Friday night, Billy Decker continued to get hot with a win at Brewerton Speedway, Danny Tyler picked up his first career modified victory with a win at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, youngster Rob Bellinger picked up the surprising victory at CanAm Motorsports Park. In Friday night small block action, up-and-comer Bobby Herrington picked up the popular win at Autodrome Edelweiss, and Stewart Friesen added yet another win to his '09 win total with his second win of the year at Ransomville Speedway.

On Saturday night, the Heath Memorial took place at Five Mile Point Speedway, and invader Jerry Higbie went on to pick up the prestigious race win. In other big block racing from Saturday night, Billy Decker went on to collect his second win of the weekend with a win at Fulton Speedway, Andy Bachetti and Mark Flach split Lebanon Valley twin features, Wade Hendrickson finally broke his streak of bad luck and won at Bridgeport Speedway, defending big block modified champion H.J. Bunting snapped his losing streak at Delaware International Speedway, Bob Drayton entered victory lane for the first time since 2000 with a win at New Egypt Speedway, Matt Sheppard continued his dominance in 2009 with another win at Canandaigua Speedway, and Chad Jones picked up career big block win #1 with a win at Mahoning Valley Speedway. In Saturday night small block modified action, Eric Gabany continued his strong run at a track championship with another win at Mercer Raceway Park, Jeff Strunk finally entered Grandview Speedway victory lane for the first time in 2009, who else but Danny O'Brien won at Brockville-Ontario Speedway, Ray Hoard picked up his first win of 2009 with a win at Lebanon Valley Speedway, Scott Wood also won his first race of 2009 with a win at Merrittville Speedway, and Curt Van Pelt finally snapped his bad luck and beat his brother to win at Woodhull Raceway.

On Sunday night, the Thunder Series for big block modifieds opened their season at Utica Rome Speedway, with Bobby Varin picking up the $5,000 feature win. In small blocks on Sunday night, Don Mattison ended his losing streak with a big win at Devils Bowl Speedway, and at Cornwall Motor Speedway it was Laurent Ladouceur who went on to win the feature event.

Congratulations to all this weeks winners, especially Wago drivers Danny Tyler, Stewart Friesen, Mark Flach, Andy Bachetti, Jeff Strunk, Wade Hendrickson, and Matt Sheppard.

I still have to look and see what specials are coming up this weekend, however, small block modifieds will be at Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night for a special Thunder on the Hill Series show.

Jeff Sechrist Lands Ride; Stephane LaFrance Leaves One

Club Wago driver, Jeff Sechrist, who hasn't raced since running a handful of shows for Saracino Racing at the end of last season, will drive for Guistwite Racing in the small block division at Big Diamond Raceway, and some shows possibly at Grandview Speedway. Guistwite Racing return after sitting out a few years. The team has had big name drivers such at Kenny Brightbill and Ray Swinehart drive for the team in the past.

While Sechrist finds a new ride, one of the top Canandian drivers, Stephane LaFrance, has left his small block ride. CMB Racing, who added Steve Paine and LaFrance to the racing stable to run at Autodrome Granby in 2009, has lost LaFrance Racing, who was unhappy with the equipment being run with the team. CMB Racing will not replace LaFrance and will instead focus solely on running Steve Paine. However, according to sources, don't be surprised to see Paine leave the team in the next month.

James and Laubach Split Wingate Class Twin 20s

Chad James and Rick Laubach split feature events in Tuesday nights George Wingate Classic twin 20s for the big block modifieds. The race was the 3rd race of the Tri-Track Series schedule. Chad James passed Craig Von Dohren around the half way point of the first feature, and went on to win. Von Dohren hung onto second, Duane Howard, Scott Van Gorder, and Jimmy Horton rounded out the top 5.

In the second feature, Jimmy Horton and Richie Pratt battled hard for the lead at the half way point of the race, until Pratt spun in the middle of turn 3 and 4. Rick Laubach then made a late race pass on Horton to pick up the win in feature #2. Jimmy Horton finished 2nd, Pratt (who passed 10-cars in the first 2 laps after going to the rear for his spin) rebounded for 3rd, Chad James backed up his win with his second top 5 finish of the night, and Duane Howard rounded out the top 5.

O'Briens Shine; Rain Rain Go Away; Weekend Round-up

Well, once again, Mother Nature had a dominating weekend. Saturday was almost a complete wash, only 2 tracks got modified racing in. The opener to the Fonda/Utica Rome Series was scheduled for Fonda, but was rained out.

Friday night saw the most racing get in. Jeff Rudalavage became the first two-time winner at Penn Can Speedway in the track's 2009 big block division. J.R. Crouse (Big Blocks at Redline Raceway), Pierre DaGenais (Small Blocks at Autodrome Edelweiss), and Roy Tarbell (Small Blocks at Mohawk Raceway) backed up last week's wins at their respective tracks by all winning at the same tracks again this weekend. Vinnie Vitale picked up his first win of the year with his big block at Brewerton Speedway. Billy Dunn extended his points lead in the big block division at CanAm Motorsports Park with another win on Friday night. Paul Kinney picked up the popular win at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park with the big block modified. Kenny Tremont continued his trek towards running down Brett Hearn in big block modified points at Albany-Saratoga Speedway by winning again at the track.

Saturday night saw the O'Brien brothers (Tim, Danny, and Pat) finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the small block feature at Brockville-Ontario Speedway, with Pat coming away with the win. The only other track to run at Saturday night was Airborne Speedway which saw Jason Durgen pick up the dirt small block feature.

Finally, on Sunday, Pat Ward won again at Utica Rome Speedway with the big block. Jimmy Phelps snapped his rough-luck streak with a win at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in the big block division. Last, but not least, Joel Doiron finally held on to win his first small block win of the year at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Congratulations to all this weekend's feature winners. For the first time this year, the Club Wago drivers went winless for the weekend.

Advance Auto Parts Officially Out As SDS Sponsor

A few days ago I posted that Advance Auto Parts may be done sponsoring the Super Dirt Series, that rumor has now been confirmed. A few months ago Advance Auto Parts left as the head sponsor of the World of Outlaw Series, now, they're officially out as the Super Dirt Series sponsor. As of Monday, Advance Auto Parts is no longer the Super Dirt Series main sponsor. No word on any replacements lined up.

Decker Does a Rain Dance at OCFS

The Big Show was a success besides some curve balls (electrical and weather related) along the way. A strong field of over 60 big blocks piled into the pits. In the end, Billy Decker passed Gary Edwards for the lead around lap 25 of the 100 lap feature. Then, the rain came and caused the checkered flags to be thrown before the completion of 100 laps. Billy Decker picked up the $6,000 win, rounding out the top 5 were Danny Johnson, Brett Hearn, Mitch Gibbs, and Tommy Meier.

The only other special scheduled for this weekend will be at Fonda Speedway on Saturday night as they start off the Fonda/Utica Rome NMX Series opener with a $5,000 to win 50 lapper for the big block modifieds.

DeSantis and Bliss Win Specials; Weekend Roundup

Well, mother nature was another huge winner on the east coast, but once again racing was run all 3 days.

Here's who won on Friday. Roy Tarbell picked up his first win of the year in the small block division at Mohawk International Raceway. Rick Mill picked up the popular big block win at Accord Speedway. Big Diamond's curse on Ryan Godown was finally lifted as Godown won his first ever small block race at the speedway. Pete Bicknell continued to prove he's still one of the best with another small block win at Ransomville Speedway. Alan Johnson won the big block thriller at Brewerton Speedway. Frankie Caprara returned to CanAm Speedway with a win in the big block feature. Brett Hearn continued his early dominance at Albany-Saratoga Speedway with yet another big block feature win. Jeremiah Shingledecker won yet another big block feature in 2009, this time at Lernerville Speedway. J.R. Crouse picked up his first win at Redline Raceway's big block feature of 2009. Penn Can saw Brett Tonkin finally break through for his first win in the big block feature. Glen Ridge Motorsports Park saw Bobby Varin continue his huge start to 2009 with the big block feature win. Finally, Gary Smoker ended his bad luck at Mercer Raceway Park with a win in the small block feature.

Saturday night saw a lot more rainouts, but racing did get in at some speedways. Autodrome Granby's small block feature went to David Hebert. Stewart Friesen won in front of a packed house at Five Mile Point Speedway in Scott Brady's big block. Danny O'Brien held off brother Pat to win again at Brockville-Ontario Speedway. Lebanon Valley was on tap to have twin small block features, along with a big block feature, rain washed out all but one of the small block features, which saw Brett Hearn take the win. Fulton Speedway saw another Gypsum car win the big block feature, as Billy Decker won again. Mat Williamson went on to win his first career small block modified feature with a big win at Merrittville Speedway.

Sunday saw the return of dirt modifieds to Susquehanna Speedway Park, and Chemung Speedway. MeMe DeSantis won the small block feature at Susky, and Ray Bliss picked up the small block win at Chemung. Steve Paine won the big block feature at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Todd Burley won the big block feature at Utica Rome Speedway. Humberstone Speedway saw Larry Lampman win the small block feature. Last, but not least, Alain Boisvert won the small block feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Kumernitsky, Walker, Homan get career division firsts; Sheppard Super on Tour; Full List of Weekend Winners

Well, it was another great weekend in racing, although rain did cause lots of cancellations this weekend, a lot of racing also got in.

On Friday night, the new era at Mohawk International Raceway kicked off with Carey Terrance picking up the prestigious Memorial Cup with the small block feature win. Ransomville Speedway had twin features for the small block modifieds, with Rick Richner and Stewart Friesen splitting the wins. Brett Hearn continued his dominating start to the year at Albany-Saratoga Speedway with another win in the track's big block division. Jeff Brownell continued his march towards back-to-back Glen Ridge Motorsports Park big block championships with another win at the speedway. Justin Haers won the big block feature at CanAm Motorsports Park. Chad Phelps rode some momentum to picking up the big block feature win at Brewerton Speedway in the big block division. Pierre DaGenais won the 50 lap $2,000 to win small block special at Autodrome Edelweiss. Penn Can Speedway saw one of their all-time greats, Brian Weaver, pick up the big block feature win.

Saturday night saw the Super Dirt Series return to action with Matt Sheppard picking up the $6,000 win at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Five Mile Point saw Brian Puckett pick up his first big block win of the season, and saw Brian Weaver win his second race of the weekend with twin features. Bridgeport Speedway also had double features on the schedule for the big block modifieds with Chad James and Richie Pratt splitting the wins. Billy Pauch picked up his 75th career New Egypt Speedway big block win. Billy Pauch Jr. then stepped up to the plate at Grandview Speedway and picked up his first win of the season. Brockville-Ontairio Speedway saw someone finally beat Danny O'Brien in the small block division, as Todd Stewart went on to win. Mahoning Valley Speedway saw 16-year old Jonathan Kumernitsky pick up his first career dirt big block modified win. Another future star, Brad Rapp, won the big block feature at Sharon Speedway. Dana Walker picked up career big block modified win #1 as he won at Delaware International Speedway. Bobby Varin showed he's the man to beat at Fonda Speedway this year with another big block win at the Track of Champions. Autodrome Drummond saw Steve Bernard go on to pick up the small block feature. Ray Bliss won his second small block race of the season at Woodhull Raceway. The big blocks had the night off, so the small block modifieds shined at Orange County Fair Speedway with Craig Mitchell picking up the win. Merrittville Speedway saw their all-time winningest driver, Pete Bicknell, add another one to the small block total with another win.

Sunday night had no specials (thanks to the rain), so it was all weekly shows. Chad Homan picked up career big block win #1 as he won the feature at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Devil's Bowl Speedway saw Kenny Tremont pick up the win from deep in the starting field in the big block division. Willy Decker picked up a big win at Utica Rome Speedway in the big block division. Finally, last but not least, Jeremiah Shingledecker picked up yet another big block win at Tri-City Speedway.

Congratulations to all this week's winners, especially Club Wago drivers Brett Hearn, Stewart Friesen, and Craig Mitchell.

Help Me...

Hey guys, so, I want to make this thing an updated daily blog, however, obviously, there isn't much to post during the week when there isn't any racing going on. Right now there aren't many driver changes or anything going on, so other then listing specials coming up and weekend results, there isn't much for me to post. So I'm asking for your help, what can I put on here during the week that would keep you guys entertained. Shoot me an e-mail at Jman97531@aol.com if you have any ideas, thanks!

Specials This Weekend; Sad News

Should be a pretty good weekend of racing for dirt small and big block modifieds this weekend. Ransomville Speedway will host double features for the small block modifieds on Friday night. Edelweiss Speedway has a 50 lap Syracuse qualifier paying $2,000 to win for the small blocks. Also on Friday is the Memorial Cup race for small block at the new Mohawk International Speedway. Five Mile Point Speedway will host double features for the big block modifieds on Saturday night. The Super Dirt Series returns to action at Lebanon Valley Speedway with a 100 lap $6,000 to win show. On Sunday, the Super Dirt Series makes their first ever appearance, and their return to asphalt, at Airborne Speedway, which will also be 100 laps and pay $6,000 to win.

Sad news as 358 modified driver Francisco Pereira passed away after a battle with cancer. Pereira was a regular at Merrittville Speedway and also did quite a bit of traveling with the 358 Super Dirt Series. Pereira was also an ice racer in the winter, and a former rally driver. We're all going to miss seeing that spider-web paint schemed #37P racing around the track.

Jumpin' Jack Jumps Back into Victory Lane; Rest of Weekend Winners

Big weekend of wins for the veterans this weekend. Rain was a big winner as well, causing cancellations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at a bunch of local speedways. Mohawk rained out, so the Memorial Cup will be held this Friday night. Ransomville because of the rain will now have double modified features this Friday night as well.

Now, let's see who won where, starting with Friday night racing action. Kevin Bolland backed up winning 3 races in a row last weekend at 3 tracks with his fourth win in his last four races, as he picked up the big block feature at Lernerville Speedway. JaMike Sowle picked up his first win of the season with a win in the big block division at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Billy Decker continued his return to dominance after a slow start to the season with a win in his big block at Brewerton Speedway. Jeff Trombley ended the Brett Hearn dominance at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in the big block division with a win. Brian Malcolm was finally beat for the first time at Redline Raceway as Jason Andrews went on to pick up the big block feature win.

On Saturday night there was more racing action. Fonda Speedway saw Jack Johnson finally end his winless drought as he pickd up his first win of the season in the big block modified division, and his 149th in his career at Fonda Speedway, Bobby Varin won Fonda Speedway's second big block feature. MeMe DeSantis and Ryan Godown split Grandview Speedway small block modified features. Richie Pratt cut into Chad James' points lead at Bridgeport Speedway with a win in the big block feature. Billy Pauch marched to his 3rd win of the season in New Egypt's big block division. Eric Palmer picked up his first win of the year at Five Mile Point Speedway. Veteran Chuck McKee won again at Orange County Fair Speedway in the big block division. Matt Sheppard continued his amazing start to the year with another win in the Jeff Brownell Sr. owned #9s big block modified at Canandaigua Speedway. Fulton Speedway saw Pat Ward notch off yet another big block win in 2009. Woodhull Raceway's small block feature went once again to Billy Van Pelt. The Brockville-Ontairio Speedway dominator, Danny O'Brien, picked up another win in the small block division at the speedway. Veteran Archie Meyers ended his winless streak with an exciting win at Mahoning Valley Speedway's dirt big block division. Andy Bachetti notched off the win at Lebanon Valley Speedway in his big block. 2008 Delaware International Speedway big block champion Jamie Mills picked up another win at Delaware on Saturday.

Sunday saw Jack Johnson back up his win at Fonda with a win in Utica Rome Speedway's big block feature. Matt Sheppard also backed up his big block feature win at Canandaigua Speedway with another big block win on Sunday at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Fred Carleton picked up his first win of the year with a small block win at Humberstone Speedway. And veteran Donnie Ackner picked up the feature win at Devil's Bowl on Sunday night.

Congratulations to everyone that won this weekend, especially Club Wago drivers Ryan Godown, Matt Sheppard (2), Eric Palmer, and Andy Bachetti.

Troy Wink Lands Ride

Troy Wink isn't done yet! Gary Wagner has offered Troy Wink a ride for the rest of the season. Wagner was running weekly at Big Diamond Raceway in the small block modified division, and was being sponsored by Wink before offering Troy the ride.
