Decker Takes Thunder Series Race at Utica Rome

Billy Decker cruised to pick up the $5,000 big block modified feature win at Utica Rome Speedway's Thunder Series race. It was Decker's first win in a few years at Utica Rome. Here was last night's top 5...

Remember, Saturday is the 3rd race of the Club Wago Crown Jewel Fantasy League, and also the 3rd big money event of the year, as Friends of Mike Night highlights the weekend with a 100-lap, $15,000 to win event for the big block modifieds.

Gable Returning? Lamb Going to SDW

Look for Jody Gable to return to the ownership role by Mr. Dirt Track USA sources report. No word on who the driver will be. The team has ran in the past with drivers such as Bobby Varin, Rich Ricci, Andy Bachetti, Brett Hearn, Tim Dwyer, and J.R. Heffner, and also had connections with Kevin Bolland as Bolland and Gable attempted to put together a deal for last year's Rite-Aid 200. With Gable being out of racing for over a year, expect a former driver to run for Gable. With Bachetti and Hearn with solid rides for weekly competition at Lebanon Valley Speedway, and with Tim Dwyer not racing for 2 years now, expect either J.R. Heffner, Rich Ricci, or Bobby Varin to land in the Gable ride for the race, Heffner and Ricci seem the most likely, as Varin will more than likely run the race with the Saya #10 Race Team, and both Ricci and Heffner are running self-owned equipment.

Ted Lamb has confirmed on Doug's Dirt Diary that he will compete in both the big block and small block portion of Super Dirt Week on the moody mile. Lamb will be eligible for the Futures Race in both divisions.

Also, defending Airborne Speedway champion Martin Roy will reportedly skip the 2010 addition of Super Dirt Week despite a strong run in the Rite-Aid 200 last year before mechanical problems took him out of the feature event. There is a chance that plans could change, as Roy recently picked up a guarenteed starting spot for the 200 with a strong 7th place finish in the Super Dirt Series race at Drummondville.

Wago Fantasy League Standings Updated After All-Star race at Cayuga Couty!

http://jw4.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=278

Click the link for the current Club Wago Crown Jewel Fantasy League standings after the All-Star 100 at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Also, I updated the link on the right under where it says "Club Wago Crown Jewel Fantasy League" on the right, so instead of it listing the rules when you click that tab, it takes you to the current fantasy league standings.

Ken Brewer Not Going Anywhere!

Ken Brewer came into the chat box (located on the left side of this chat) and set the record straight about his team. The team will be running with Gary Tomkins for the rest of the year, following the RoC Dirt Tour and running other specials. Brewer did sell 1 car to Jim Gabriel, but has already ordered a replacement. Brewer also gave insight on he and Mitch Gibbs's decision to part ways, why he's going to focus on specials instead of weekly action, read his posts in the chat box to see what he said about each. Thanks once again to Ken Brewer for coming on here and giving us the information!

Hearn Takes Crazy Series Race at Granby

Brett Hearn notched his second Super Dirt Series race win of the year, this one coming at Autodrome Granby. Hearn too the lead just after the half way point in the race from Dale Planck, and took advantage of David Hebert, Dale Planck, and Kayle Robidoux tangling while battling for second late in the race to cruise to the $6,000 victory.

Mike Brannigar, who won at Mahoning Valley Speedway was making his first start in the Scott Hulmes 134. Look for Brannigar and Hulmes to team up when Hulmes isn’t available to drive his own equipment at Mahoning Valley on Saturdays.

A few weeks ago I posted that Brian Weaver has signed on to drive the Ed Monger-Masagarus Racing 93 modified at Utica Rome Speedway after Mark Kislowski parted ways with the team. Weaver and the team have no agreed to finish out the rest of the season with the team.

Look for Randy Sherlock to make his return to racing in the next few weeks, he hasn’t raced since Super Dirt Week of last year after having surgery over the off-season. Mike Kolka won in his equipment this past weekend, as Danny Johnson was at Cayuga County Fair Speedway for the Super Dirt Series event.

An early entry list has been posted on www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net for the Hard Clay Challenge coming up August 5th. An impressive list of names have already filled out entries for the event.

Club Wago Fantasy League standings will be updated later today. Remember, since the final 50 lap event was the only race that paid $10,000 to win, that’s the only event that counts towards the fantasy league.

Also, tonight (Monday) the Super Dirt Series is in action at Autodrome Granby for a $6,000 to win feature event, tomorrow the Super Dirt Series heads to Autodrome Drummond for a $6,000 to win feature event, and also tomorrow (Tuesday) the Tri-Track Series is at Bridgeport Speedway for a $3,000 to win feature event.

Also, thanks to some information provided by some people in the chat box on this site, it appears that the Ken Brewer Racing Team has parked their equipment for the season. The team started the year off with Jim Gabriel and Mitch Gibbs driving for the team, Gibbs quit for the season, Gary Tomkins replaced Gibbs with the team. Tomkins denies the the team has parked their cars for the season, but with the team not running at Five Mile Point or I-88 the past 2 weekends, and also missing the last RoC race at Grandview, it appears as if my friends Rob Tyriw, Southern Tier Fabman, and Fastchecker were right with assumptions. Thanks guys! Also, those guys pointed out that Jim Gabriel appears to have purchased one of the Brewer cars to finish out the season with.

Wago Challenge(s) Winners

Congratulations to our winners from the competitions held at Grandview Speedway last Wednesday. The winner of the big wheel time trial challenge with a time of 10.3 seconds was Glenn Reinhart (driver, pictured holding flag) and Roy Sheeler (pusher, not pictured). Both of them received 2 tickets to the Orange County Hard Clay Challenge on August 5th. Also, the winners of the Wago Juice Challenge were the Outback Boys (pictured holding their juice creation) and received free passes to the October 16th 5-25s show at Grandview Speedway. Specials thanks once again to Michael Sanchelli and Bob Miller for donating prizes!

Friesen Keeps Streak Alive at Grandview

Stewart Friesen took advantage of Craig Von Dohren's misfortune, as Von Dohren lost a right rear tire after dominating the event with just 7 laps to go. Friesen then went on to cruise to the $5,000 victory and make up some more ground on the RoC Dirt Tour championship lead. Here's the top 5...

Grandview Speedway (RoC Dirt Tour)
1st 1 Stewart Friesen
2nd 4 Duane Howard
3rd 27J Danny Johnson
4th 357 Ryan Godown
5th 44 Frank Cozze

The points race in the RoC Dirt Tour continues to be a dog fight between the top 4 in RoC points, who continue to distance themselves from the rest of the Roc Tour regulars. Those 4 drivers are (in order of standings) Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Stewart Friesen, and Duane Howard. It should be a lot of fun the rest of the season!

Also, thank you to everyone that stopped by the Club Wago party last night. Congratulations to Roy Sheeler and Glenn Reinhart who won the big wheel time trial challenge, which won them two tickets to the $10,000 to win Hard Clay Challenge at Orange County Fair Speedway on August 5th; and also congratulations to Dave Wolfe and Jerry Nastanski for winning the Wago Juice Challenge which won them two tickets to the 5-25s at Grandview Speedway on October 16th. Specials thanks to Michael Sanchelli and Bob Miller for the tickets to give away!

The next Club Wago party event will be the Hard Clay Challenge at Orange County on August 5th!

Remember, tonight, one of the biggest weekends of the year, All-Star Weekend for the Super Dirt Series, kicks off at Brewerton Speedway with a 50-lap $3,000 to win event.

Giving Away Lots of Tickets on July 14th!

Club Wago will be giving away two tickets to the August 5th Orange County Fair Speedway Hard Clay Challenge tomorrow night at Grandview Speedway's RoC Dirt Tour race! Michael "Suitcase" Sanchelli has donated two tickets for us to give away tomorrow night and told us we can give them out however we want.

So, in an effort to promote our Super Dirt Week party, we will have 1 big wheel on hand, we'll set up a course, and we'll run time trials. The rules for the event will be similar to what we do at Syracuse, there must be 1 driver and 1 pusher, the pusher will run behind the big wheel and push, while the the driver must sit on the big wheel and steer. The driver can't assist the pusher at all and can only use their feet to slow down around a turn. The fastest time will receive the two free tickets to the Orange County Fair Speedway 358 modified $10,000 to win Hard Clay Challenge for August 5th. The big wheel time trial challenge will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Club Wago tent. We'll determine if we run a once-and-done format, or have elimination rounds depending on how many people participate.

Also remember, starting at 7:00 p.m. the Club Wago Juice Off will take place at the Wago tent as well! Make your best Wago Juice-like drink, have it sampled by our three judges, and the winner with the best tasting juice will win two free passes donated by Bob Miller, to one of the most popular Thunder on the Hill races, the October 16th 5-25s race featuring small block modifieds, URC Sprint, ARDC Midgets, sportsman modifieds, and the legend cars!

We'll be there bright and early tomorrow and will be celebrating until late into the night as we celebrate my 21st birthday party in style! Be sure to stop by the Wago tent, we'll be set up straight down from the main gate entrance, just look for the pop-up tents and Club Wago banner. See you all there!

Dunn Takes SUNY Race on Monday

Billy Dunn continued his dominance over the last year and a half at Can Am Motorsports Park with a midweek special win in the SUNY Cantun 358 Series race. Here are the top 5 finishers...

Can Am Motorsports Park (SUNY Cantun 358 Series)
1st 49 Billy Dunn
2nd 88 Tim O'Brien
3rd 55 Perry Francis
4th 124 Pierre DaGenais
5th 38 Luke Whitteker

Jeff Heotzler Jr. To Return

Jeff Heotzler Jr has had to sit out from racing over the last few seasons after giving up his car and allowing his legendary father to run the J17 big block modified. With Jeff Heotzler Sr. driving for Elmo Reckner on the Thunder Series, and Nick Nero/Bob Dini part-time at Orange County Fair Speedway, Jeff Heotzler Jr. will focus on making his return to modified racing. Look for Heotzler Jr. to run Accord Speedway part-time, and also run the small block races at Orange County Fair Speedway in a few weeks.

Also, in case you missed it, (I know I did) the Gino Postorivo Racing team will sit out the rest of the season. The team ran Jesse Hill at the start of the year, and even though Hill has been running a 99H modified, I was under the impression that it was still the Postorivo equipment. However, that has been the Hill family's equipment. Hill is currently looking for a motor after blowing up his engine, but when a motor is put into the 99H, look for Jesse to run the rest of the year in his own equipment. We're only about 3 months late on this news story!

Also, thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! Remember to stop by the Wago tent tomorrow at Grandview Speedway and have a few drinks with us.

Remember, tomorrow (Tuesday) the SUNY Cantun 358 Series is at Can Am Motorsports Park with the sprint cars. On Wednesday the RoC Dirt Tour invades Grandview Speedway for a $5,000 to win feature for the modifieds.

Also, I was under the impression that Dave Thompson (owned Danny Johnson's cars when he swept Super Dirt Week in 2006, also fielded cars for Stewart Friesen, Dale Planck, Kyle Jacobs, Frankie Caprara, Jessica Zemken, and Carey Terrance) has sold all his equipment, but I was mistaken. Gary Tomkins ran for in the Cornwall Super Dirt Series race last night. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tomkins drive for Thompson when the Super Dirt Series runs the Great Canadian Tour in a few weeks, but that remains to be seen. Tomkins will drive the Joe Beyea Racing #121 big block modified this coming week at Brewerton and Cayuga County Fair Speedway for All-Star Weekend.

Hotter Than The Weather...Craig Von Dohren

Two words, VICTORY LANE....Thats where you can find CVD's #1C Teo modified parked after every race event the Oley Pa racer enters these days....Everyone knows CVD is a SUPERSTAR modified racer, his resume consists of numerous track championships, and hundreds of feature wins at tracks all over the Northeast and even Florida....He's been a mainstay on the Pa SBM scene for over 25 yrs, being a dominate racer at Big Diamond Raceway, Grandview Speedway (he's the leading all time feature winner at both) and the now closed Penn National Speedway....He's done his share of winning at all of them.

But right now CVD is on a roll that really hasn't been seen around these parts in many MANY YEARS....The veteran racer just picked up his 12th win of the season last Friday night at BDR(4th overall there), the "BAKERS DOZEN" if you will, lol....The most impressive part of that total is, it's only the beginning of July, there is a ton of racing left to do this racing season....He's racked up 8 wins at his Saturday night home on the hill at Grandview Speedway....And NONE of them were more impressive than the one he won the night of the Super Dirt Series DIRT Traffic Jam 100....CVD ran his Grandview legal sbm motor against the "big boys" and their big block power plants....The man had to get into the feature event by qualifying through the consi, started 23rd, and raced by EVERYONE on his way to the top spot and the HUGE WIN....In the month of June he won every race at Grandview but one, and to start July off he won the special mid week sbm TOTH show that was part of the Pa 410 Sprint car Speedweek at the place....Comes right back and backs that win up with the normal Saturday night feature event three days later....The man is just downright INCREDIBLE right now.

With the Pa sbm racing scene being one of the toughest, most competitve racing circuits around (the wins get spread around pretty well at these tracks), just makes what CVD is doing right now, that MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE....It just doesn't usually happen this way around these parts....Thinking back, and off the top of my head, I can only think of racers/seasons I compare what CVD is doing to....Back a few years ago at BDR, Doug Hoffman and Moose Eisnehard teamed up and had a season for the record books....Doug won I believe 11 or 12 features that year at BDR, and went on to win the NASCAR (BDR was a sanctioned track back then) regional title that year which was worth over $40,000....And going back many many moons ago, when Billy Pauch Sr was wheeling the Hyneman #126 at Penn National Speedway back in the 80's, he was racking up win totals the one season that were in the lower teens range....Thats about it for me right off the top of my head....You just don't see season that often like the one CVD is having right now, and it's a PLEASURE to watch.

Von Dohren is a veteran, he's been around a long time....He's been a part of the racing game for what seems like forever....The man knows this won't last forever, but I'm sure he also knows you just go with it and see how long it will last....Hopefully it will last a little longer, just to see at years end what kind of numbers he can actually rack up this year....But no matter what happens the rest of the way, I'm sure it has been and still is, ONE HELL OF A RIDE.

New Poll Question, Super Dirt Series or RoC Dirt Tour?

Here's poll question number 2, which modified touring series do you prefer? The Super Dirt Series or the RoC Dirt Tour? I know I left off the Thunder Series, the BRP Modified Tour, the Tri-Track Series, the 358 Dirt Series, and the Asphalt Tri-Track Series, but in my opinion, RoC and DIRT are the two premier modified tours.

To go into the differences between the two tours, the Super Dirt Series pays $6,000 to win with the standard purse, RoC Dirt Tour pays $4,000 to win. Most events on the Super Dirt Series are 100 laps, most events on the RoC Dirt Tour are 60 laps. Big events for the Super Dirt Series include the Rite-Aid 200 ($50,000 to win), Mr. Dirt Track USA ($17,500 to win) All-Star 100 ($10,000 to win the 50 lap finale), big events for the RoC Dirt Tour is the Victoria 200 ($10,000 to win). The Super Dirt Series uses time trials and an invert to determine heat race line ups and a redraw for the feature, the RoC Dirt Tour uses a pill draw to determine heat line ups. Dirt runs a consistent rule book all season long with traditional body styles, RoC Dirt Tour allows sail panels at select events.

Super Dirt Series Tour Regulars: Matt Sheppard, Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps, Dale Planck, Danny Johnson, Michael Storms, Billy Dunn, Brett Hearn, Ryan Phelps, Gary Tomkins, Tommy Sears, Steve Paine, Larry Wight, Lance Willix, Rich Scagliotta.

RoC Dirt Tour Regulars: Pat Ward, Danny Johnson, Duane Howard, Stewart Friesen, Billy Decker, Bobby Varin, Brett Hearn, Rick Laubach, Ronnie Johnson, Jeff Strunk, Gary Tomkins, Brian Weaver, Danny Creeden, Kevin Bates, and Kirk Horton.

The poll is on the right side, if you want to show why you voted the way you did, click the comment button under here and let me here why!

Doctor Makes a House Call; Rasey Claims Blaney Memorial

Danny Johnson drove around Stewart Friesen late in the race after losing the lead to Friesen around the 1/2 point and went on to collect the $6,000 RoC Dirt Tour feature win. Danny Johnson, Stewart Friesen, Duane Howard, and Pat Ward (the top 4 in RoC Points) all finished inside the top 5. Billy Decker ended up in 6th place, but the top 4 in RoC points are starting to pull away from the field. It should be a great battle for the title.

In the Second Annual Lou Blaney Memorial Jim Rasey went on to pick up his first win of the season in the BRP Modified Tour big block feature event. Dave Murdick, Jeremiah Shingledecker, and Rex King (the top 4 in BRP Points) finished in the top 3, and continued their dog fight for the championship and have built up a good cushion over the rest of the field. Here are last night's top 5 finishers...

Five Mile Point Speedway (RoC Dirt Tour $6,000 to win)
1st 27J Danny Johnson
2nd 1 Stewart Friesen
3rd 4 Duane Howard
4th 2 Ronnie Johnson
5th 42p Pat Ward

Sharon Speedway (BRP Modified Tour $2,000 to win)
1st 32 Jim Rasey
2nd 61 Dave Murdick
3rd 777 Kevin Bolland
4th 37MD Jeremiah Shingledecker
5th 65 Rex King

Laubach Wins Camp Barnes

Rick Laubach started on the pole and led every lap, holding off challenges from Kenny Brightbill, Billy Pauch, Jamie Mills, and Chad James throughout the night to pick up the $3,000 big block win. Here are the results...

Delaware International Speedway
1st 7 Rick Laubach
2nd 1w Billy Pauch
3rd 14 Jimmy Horton
4th 55 Kenny Brightbill
5th 62 Matt Jester

Richie Tobias will make his debut next weekend during All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, but not in his own car. He will be driving a second Mike Mahaney car in the race. Not sure if he still plans on running his own car at all this year.

Tonight the RoC Dirt Tour is in action at Five Mile Point Speedway for a $6,000 to win event, and the BRP Modified Tour is in action at Sharon Speedway for the Lou Blaney Memorial.

Lots of mid-week specials happening this week. On Tuesday night at Delaware International Speedway it will be the annual Camp Barnes race for the big block modifieds paying $3,000 to win for the big blocks. On Wednesday, the RoC Dirt Tour invades Five Mile Point Speedway for a $6,000 to win race, and the BRP Modified Tour invades Sharon Speedway for the Lou Blaney Memorial.

Holy Poll Batman!

I just got back from Watkins Glen International for the Indy Race (which is my 2nd favorite form of racing behind dirt modified racing), and saw that we've now had 53 votes in the poll, which is much more than I was expecting. Now, with that said, some people seem to think that polls are silly and just a popularity contest, so, in all honesty, I'm looking for some feedback here, do you guys want to see me continue to have a poll here? Or should I do away with it? Look for my results post in a little bit, I'm gathering results now!

Rest In Peace Mitch Jock

Small block modified star Mitch Jock has passed away after battling with an illness all season. Jock frequented the 358 Dirt Series, and since he was from way up north, the only times I've had the pleasure of watching Mitch race was during Super Dirt Week over the past few seasons. Mitch ran weekly at Mohawk International Speedway and Cornwall Speedway. His beautiful #14 modifieds will surely be missed on the track. Rest in peace Mitch!
