Van Pelt and Susice Team Up

Nobody has more wins or more championships in the modified division at Woodhull Raceway than Billy Van Pelt, but the legendary driver didn't have anything lined up for 2014 after the Chilson Racing team announced they were selling out at the conclusion of 2013, until he got a call from Susice Motorsports.

Susice Motorsports announced over the week that Van Pelt has inked a deal to run as a teammate to rising star Ryan Susice in a second Susice-prepared car for at least 2 races (Alex Friesen SummerNationals Super DIRTcar Series race and Battle of the Border 358 DIRTcar Series event--both at Ransomville Speedway) in 2014.

In the same press release Susice announced in addition to running weekly at Ransomville, he would add Merrittville to his weekly schedule in 2014.

News has been slow as of late, but expect a bunch of announcements after the holiday season. AARN's Motorsports show January 10-11-12 always provides a ton of news and is an "unofficial kickoff" towards the 2014 season.

Petrilak will focus on weekly competition at Five Mile Point Speedway and may travel to some RoC shows.

Boniface and Petrilak join Jenna David, Jared Umbenhauer, Brett Kressley, and Matt Janczuk who have all announced plans to move up to the modified division for 2014 earlier in the off-season.

Short Track Super Series Schedule Released

Brett Deyo has announced the final schedule for the innagural "Short Track Super Series".

There are 3 Deyo-promoted events that are not part of the Short Track Super Series, the "Dirty Jersey 60" which will be held at New Egypt Speedway on June 17 (my apologies--as I originally reported this would be part of the series), the "Kind of the Can" which will be held October 17th at Penn Can Speedway, and "The Gobbler" which will be held November 29 at Accord Speedway.

Also, the Penn Can date has been moved from June to August.

Here's the schedule...

May 20- Thunder Mountain Speedway
July 23- I-88 Speedway
August 5- Accord Speedway
August 12- Penn Can Speedway
October 11- I-88 Speedway

Deyo adds Thunder Mountain to Short Track Super Series

Brett Deyo has officially added Thunder Mountain Speedway to the innagural "Short Track Super Series" schedule.

Thunder Mountain, now back under the leadership of Karl Spoonhower, will hold arguably the tracks biggest race on Tuesday, May 20th. The race will pay $5,000 to win the 50-lap feature.

Deyo has also announced early this week that his "Hard Clay Open" will set the modified field via a passing points system, which will award points for finishing position AND number of positions gained in the heat race. The consi races will run as normal with the top finishers advancing to the feature.

Cornwall Motor Speedway Sold

Quebec's premier racing website, 360nitro.com is reporting that Cornwall Motor Speedway has been sold. Multiple parties were immediately interested in purchasing the top-notch facility after owner Ron Morin made it public that the track was for sale last year, most notably Autodrome Drummond's leader and modified driver Yan Bussiere, although it doesn't appear Bussiere's offer was accepted. The buyers name has not yet been released.

According to the report, the track will become "Cornwall International Speedway" but will see a similar schedule to what Morin had in place over the past few seasons. Three dates have already been announced for 2014, with the Super DIRTcar Series invading the track June 29, and the 358 DIRTcar Series in action on May 18 and August 31. Expect a formal announcement about the sale sometime in January.

Ron Morin took control of the 1/4 mile bullring in 1980 and has turned it into one of the premier facilities in the northeast. The entire article is available by clicking here. If you don't speak French, simply copy and paste the article into "Google Translate."

Deyo's series currently has eight events booked at five tracks, with a strong possibility of a sixth track (and ninth event) being announced in the next few weeks. One of those events, the Super DIRTcar Series event at New Egypt Speedway, will not count towards the championship.

Evans Mills Speedway Drops Modifieds; Ransomville Confirms Another Date

Evans Mills Speedway has announced that the modified division will not return to the facility in 2014 following a disappointing season that rarely saw more than 8 modifieds in attendance for weekly competition. Jordan McCreadie was the modified champion last year.

Ransomville Speedway has announced another big race in preparation for the 2014 season. The 358 DIRTcar Series will invade the track on Wednesday, July 2nd, for the Battle at the Border. Chad Brachmann is the defending winner of the event.

Ransomville Speedway added to '14 Super DIRTcar Series Schedule

Ransomville Speedway has been announced as the 20th track on the 2014 Super DIRTcar Series schedule. It's also the eighth track added to the Series schedule that was not on the tour in 2013.

The big-blocks will make their return to the Niagara region 3/8 mile on Tuesday, August 5th--the day after Merrittville Speedway's Super DIRTcar Series. This event will replace the trip to I-96 Speedway, which will be the only track not to return to the Series schedule in '14 (despite I-96 wanting the tour back, officials decided it was too much travel for their teams.)

Ransomville will once again run under DIRTcar sanction with the 358-modifieds as their premier division. They will also host the 358 DIRTcar Series as they have the past few seasons with a summer date that will be announced at a later date.

Brett Hearn won the last Super DIRTcar Series race at Ransomville, which was held in July of 2009.

The 2014 Master schedule for big/small block modifieds is post (link available to the left). We'll be updating it throughout the off-season as schedules and race dates are released.

New Egypt Announced Northeast Kick Off

New Egypt Speedway has announced that they will open their doors on Saturday, March 1st, for a 50-lap feature for the big-block modifieds. The race will also have an open tire rule. The track will announce more information regarding the event tomorrow (Thursday).

This will mark the earliest New Egypt Speedway has opened since it became a dirt track in 1998. It will also mark the first races in the northeast for the modified division. The dirt modified season will officially kick off at Volusia Speedway Park the week prior (February 19-22) down in Florida.

Tuesday Tidbits

In a move that will surprise nobody, Jeff Heotzler has officially been named the full-time driver of the Mel Schrufer Racing #84 in '14. The duo has not yet decided where they will run weekly, but they're leaning towards competing weekly at Orange County Fair Speedway, which would allow Heotzler to run weekly at Accord in his own equipment.

Ryan Phelps has announced on Doug's Dirt Diary that he will return to full-time Super DIRTcar Series action in '14. Phelps follows Larry Wight and Billy Decker as the third driver to announce his return to the Series after taking time away.

New Egypt Speedway has announced that the All-Star Challenge will return in '14, albeit with a date change. The race will be moved to Saturday, September 20th this coming season after being held the first Thursday in October in 2013.

Lebanon Valley Speedway regular Jimmy Burns is selling out and getting out of the sport. Burns, who finished 15th in points this past season, was a former feature winner at Lebanon Valley.

Brownell back with Brownell

When Matt Sheppard parted ways with JB Motorsports the rumors started circulating that the team was getting out of racing. Today, he's announced that Jeff Brownell Jr will return to the seat of the JB Motorsports team aboard using the #29.

Brownell Jr won 2 Glen Ridge Motorsports Park titles aboard the JB Motorsports #29 in the late 2000s. The team will call Glen Ridge home and will determine a traveling schedule later in the off-season.
