Doctor Replaces Varin with Petruska; Big Diamond Extends Season

It has been confirmed that Danny Johnson will take over driving duties of the Mike Petruska Racing #66, replacing Bobby Varin. This will be Johnson's third stint with the team, that has now gone through Danny Johnson, Jerry Higbie, Jeff Heotzler, Duane Howard, Billy Pauch, Billy Pauch Jr, and now Bobby Varin over the past few seasons. Varin parked the car in victory lane 3 times thus far this season, including 2 wins at his weekly home of Orange County and a win at the RoC race at Bridgeport. Varin sits just outside the top-5 in Super DIRTcar Series points, and leads the RoC Dirt Tour.

Varin will still have the Erik Nelson owned #85 for weekly competition at Glen Ridge, and will have the Tom Umbenhauer owned #19v and the Dover Brakes Racing #00 at his disposal for special races. Varin did participate last week at Orange County for Joey Decker.

Johnson will pilot the Petruska #66 part-time on the RoC Tour while competing weekly at Accord the rest of the season. Johnson will continue to drive for Tyler Siri on the Super DIRTcar Series and weekly at Canandaigua, and he also has his own #27J small-block for specials. Johnson started the season with Mike Payne Racing before the 2 sides split a few weeks ago. Johnson has also driven for Lee Shultz and Jeff Brown for weekly competition at Accord and Georgetown, respectively. Johnson will be in another new ride for Tuesday's RoC Dirt Tour race at Five Mile Point, as he will be aboard the car normally piloted by Adam MacGeorge.

Big Diamond Raceway has announced that due to the recent rain-outs, they will extend their season for another month. The 3/8th mile will run on Sunday evenings throughout the month of September, with the championship eventually being decided on September 29th.
