DeSantis and Phelps Win Big

As another huge weekend of racing got in the books, two drivers added 5-digit wins to their list of accomplishments. On Saturday night, the Freedom 76er, which paid $20,000 to win, was run at Grandview Speedway. After a thrilling night, that saw Ryan Godown sent to the rear while leading, Craig Von Dohren crash while making a pass to take the lead, and Duane Howard cut a tire with 8 laps to go while leading, it was MeMe DeSantis who came from the 22nd starting spot to pick up the $20,000 win. Finishing second was Doug Manmiller, and rounding out the top 5 were Jeff Strunk, Mike Gular, and Billy Pauch Jr.

Also on Saturday night, the 358 Series invaded Drummondville for a $10,000 to win 150 lap feature. In this race, it was Jimmy Phelps, who snuck passed Larry Wight right after the 1/2 point, who went on to collect his biggest win of the year. Rounding out the top 5 there was Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson, Carey Terrance, and Larry Lampman.

Also in action on Saturday, the BRP Modified Tour invaded Sharon Speedway. There, it was Jim Rasey picking up his first tour win of the season as he snuck passed Carl Weatherby early in the race and never looked back, Jeremiah Shingledecker held on for 2nd, Weatherby fell to 3rd, and rounding out the top 5 were Jim Weller and Lonnie Riggs.

Finally, on Sunday the Super Dirt Series invaded Drummondville for a series race. Here, it was Matt Sheppard notching off yet another win on the season. Rounding out the top 5 were Billy Decker, Justin Haers, Gary Tomkins, and Jimmy Phelps.

Heffner Changes SDW Plans

J.R. Heffner was planning on running for Jody Gable Motorsports in the Rite-Aid 200 in just a few weeks, however, plans have now changed. After driving for Gable at Mr. Dirt Track USA at Lebanon Valley Speedway a few weeks ago, Heffner and Gable have parted ways. Heffner will now return to the seat of the Ronnie Dwyer owned #88 big block he's driven the last three years at the mile, which included two top five finishes. No word on whether or not Gable still plans to attend Super Dirt Week with another driver.

Decker and Paine Collect $10,000 Pay Days

As the "post-season" big money races continue, 2 more drivers collected huge pay days this past weekend. On Saturday night, the New Yorker 200 was run at Utica Rome Speedway, 53 cars signed into the pits, and after blowing an engine in his heat, Brett Hearn was the show, as he came from the consi to challenge for the lead late in the race. However, there was a Hurricane brewing, and the Jet just couldn't catch it. Steve Paine passed Pat Ward and Bobby Varin early in the second half of the 200 lapper, and went on to dominate the last portion of the race, collecting his biggest win of the year. Hearn hung on to finish second, followed by Bobby Varin, Ronnie Johnson, and Pat Ward, who rounded out the top 5.

On Sunday night, the 358 Super Dirt Series had their biggest race to date as they invaded Autodrome Granby for 150 laps and a $10,000 pay-day. After Michel Chicoine started on the pole, it was Brett Hearn who dominated the race, until early in the second half of the race, when a battery problem caused him to go pit-side, handing the lead to Billy Decker, who went on to dominate the late stages of the race and pick up his second win worth 5-figures this season. Finishing second was Larry Wight, followed by Mario Clair, Matt Sheppard, and David Hebert, who rounded out the top 5.

The 358 Dirt Series was also in action at Brockville Ontario Speedway, there, it was Pat O'Brien slipped passed Billy Decker with 30 laps to go to pick up the $4,000 win. Rounding out the top 5 there were Decker, Danny O'Brien, Pete Bicknell, and Dale Planck.

Also, Humberstone Speedway had a race for the small block modifieds, that saw Dave Blaney invade and win in a back-up Scott Wood car. At Albany-Saratoga Speedway's points finale, Ronnie Johnson picked up the win, but Kenny Tremont capped off his second track championship of 2009.

The Club Wago Fantasy League from both the New Yorker 200, and the Granby 150, will be posted by tonight.

Standings are updated after race #6 of 15, which was held Sunday at Big Diamond Raceway for their annual Coalcracker 100, next races are this Saturday at Grandview Speedway (Freedom 76er) and Utica Rome Speedway (New Yorker 200.)

Hearn Rolls at the Wheels; Kinglsey Update

Brett Hearn slipped passed Bobby Varin with just 6 laps to go to pick up the Super Dirt Series win at Rolling Wheels Raceway on Monday night. Matt Sheppard and Tim Fuller dominated the race, until a flat tire on Sheppard's car caused the leaders to tangle, handing the lead over to Varin. Billy Decker came home second, followed by Steve Paine, Varin slipped back to fourth, and rounding out the top 5 was Jeff Brownell.

As reported, Eric Kingsley and Alan Johnson parted ways after just one start together, due to Johnson not being able to run solely for Kingsley. Now, Kingsley will go on a race-by-race schedule. Bobby Varin drove the car to a top 5 finish in the Super Dirt Series race at Rolling Wheels last night, and will also pilot the car at Brewerton Speedway, and will probably run some more races for the team. The only other thing currently for sure on Kingsley Racing's schedule is that Pat Ward will drive for the team at the sattelite shows during Super Dirt Week in 358 Series action.

Godown Claims Coalcracker; More Champions Crowned

Billy Decker picked up his second consecutive Super Dirt Series win last night at Cayuga County Fair Speedway as he used a late race pass to secure the $6,000 feature win. Jimmy Phelps, who led until Decker snuck by him, held on for second, followed by Jimmy Phelps, Alan Johnson, Justin Haers, and Ryan Phelps.

The 358 Super Dirt Series was in action last night as well at Cornwall Speedway as they battled for 100 laps and a $4,000 top prize. Dale Planck was forced to start last on the field after his car wasn't able to start before the beginning of the race, but was a rocket ship last night, charging from the last starting spot to move into the second spot. With teammate Carey Terrance leading with one lap to go, Planck made a last turn move on Terrance, but fell .02 seconds short of the win. Finishing 3rd was David Hebert, while Danny O'Brien, and Tim O'Brien rounded out the top 5.

The Coalcracker 100 at Big Diamond Raceway was also run last night at Big Diamond Raceway with $10,000 going to the winner. Ryan Godown, who claimed the Forrest Rogers Memorial at Grandview Speedway earlier this season to claim that $10,000 top prize, led every lap to pick up his first career Coalcracker win. Tire wear was an issue late in the race, as Godown's tire went flat coming to victory lane. Rounding out the top 5 were MeMe DeSantis, Rick Laubach, Sean Merkel, and Keith Hoffman.

Also, I missed two track champions who were crowned last night. At Mercer Raceway Park, it was Frank Guidance who claimed his third small block championship in four years at the track, and at Sharon Speedway it was Rob Curtis who won his first career big block championship.

More track champions were crowned on Sunday, starting with Cayuga County Fair Speedway, who saw Alan Johnson claim yet another big block track championship, at Devils Bowl Speedway Kenny Tremont held off Todd Stone by a single point to claim the big block championship, Humberstone Speedway saw Pete Bicknell notch off the small block track championship, Jeremiah Shingledecker picked up his second championship of his career and season by picking up the big block title at Tri-City Speedway, and Pat Ward claimed his second consecutive big block championship at Utica Rome Speedway.

On Sunday night, a bunch of track champions were also crowned.

Kingsley and AJ Done Already; Changes at SDW; Lots of Champions Crowned

Now, I'm going to start updating this thing more often, thanks for being patient with me guys. I'm going to post everyone's picks for tonight's Fantasy League Race (5 of 15) in a few minutes.

Now, onto some news, Alan Johnson has parted ways with Kingsley Motorsports after just one start with the team. Johnson and Kingsley had planned to hit all the end of the season shows, including Super Dirt Week, but have parted ways for unknown reasons. Tommy Sears started off the season with the team before he was let go. No word on any replacements. Younger brother Danny Johnson, despite rumors, will finish out the season on the Super Dirt Series driving for Dave Thompson Motorsports. He will also finish the year at Accord Speedway with the Mike Trauschold owned #28 modified, with whom he's already picked up at win this season at Accord with, and will also run the RoC Dirt Tour races with that team, along with the Fulton 200, among other specials. Johnson will also drive a second Norm Hansell owned small block modified in next weekend's Freedom 76er. Special thanks to some of my friends at Dirt Track Digest for giving me the info pertaining to Johnson and the Thompson team.

Dirt Motorsports has announced there will be a major change to this year's Rite-Aid 200. There will be a mandatory pit stop before lap 100, and a mandatory pit stop after lap 100, which means all teams will be forced to make 2 pit stops during the $50,000 to win feature event. Since the late 90s, the race has come down to fuel mileage, with almost all of the field running the race on only one pit stop. This eliminates the fuel mileage game, and makes it a whole new animal.

Now, onto some points championship winners. Since I've updated last, there have been a ton of points championships decided. Last weekend, it was Jeremiah Shingledecker (big block modifieds) at Lernerville Speedway, who claimed his first career points title, and Duane Howard (small block modifieds) at Big Diamond Raceway, who now has more championships at Diamond than any other driver at the Raceway. Then, already this weekend, on Friday night the racing world saw Billy Dunn claim the Can-Am Motorsports Park big block championship, Lance Willix claim the Can-Am Motorsports Park small block championship, Roy Tarbell picked up the small block championship at Mohawk International Raceway, Todd Burley claim another Ransomville Speedway small block modified championship, and Matt Sheppard pick up the big block championship at Brewerton Speedway.

On Saturday night, at Fulton Speedway it was Billy Decker claiming the big block points title, Jeff Strunk claimed yet another Grandview Speedway small block points championship, Matt Sheppard picked up his second points title of the season with a big block title at Canandaigua Speedway, Lebanon Valley Speedway saw Andy Bachetti sweep the season and pick up both the big block and small block track championships, also at Lebanon Valley, Eddie Marshall picked up the "King of the Valley" Mini-Series points championship, Martin Roy claimed the small block modified championship at Airborne Speedway, Jeff Brownell won his second consecutive big block championship at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, Brian Weaver claimed yet another big block modified track title at Five Mile Point Speedway, Larry Lampman won the small block modified title at Merrittville Speedway, and at Orange County Fair Speedway it was Chuck McKee who won the small block modified championship, and Jerry Higbie and Chuck McKee have (or will, McKee will win a protest that will give him one more spot due to a scoring error, which will lead to tie for the championship) been crowned big block modified track champions.

Congratulations too all this year's champions, especially Club Wago drivers Duane Howard, Andy Bachetti (2), Matt Sheppard (2), and Lance Willix.
