Weather was a multi-winner

While many tracks had their initial races of 2012 this past weekend, the weather was a winner at a few speedplants.

Albany Saratoga had two shows with Stewart Friesen taking the checkered on Thursday and Tim McCreadie winning on Friday.

Also on Friday, Meme DeSantis won the make-up and regular feature at Big Diamond. Chad Brachman ventured into Western PA from his home in Sanborn, NY to pick up the victory at Lernerville’s opener. Billy Van Pelt visited the winner’s circle at Black Rock with Kevin Hartnett taking top honors at Penn Can’s opener. I-88’s lidlifter went to Mitch Gibbs and Ryan Phelps took the first race at Brewerton. Accord’s initial race of the year was won by Andy Bachetti. Jeremy Wilder was the victor at Glen Ridge.

On Saturday, Bridgeport Speedway’s 30-lap main went only 20 tours due to rain and Richie Pratt, Jr. took his second win of the year. Ryan Godown won at New Egypt Speedway. Brett Hearn took home the checkered flag at Lebanon Valley for the second week in a row.

Features were postponed at Grandview and Orange County. Races were cancelled at Mahoning, Mercer, Canandaigua, Delaware, Fonda and Can-AM.  Sunday’s ROC event at Five Mile Point has been rescheduled for Monday, July 2.

Weekend Wrap-up

Here is the wrap-up after a busy weekend of action. On Friday, Matt Sheppard picked up the win at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Sheppard traveled back down I-90 and took top honors at Canandaigua on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Mike Barone scored his first Big Block Modified win at Bridgeport Speedway. For the second week in a row, Billy Pauch, Sr. and Duane Howard collected victories at New Egypt and Grandview respectively. Pat Ward invaded Five Mile Point and headed home with the first place prize.  Chris Shultz won the lidlifter at Orange County while Brett Hearn took the opener at Lebanon Valley.  HJ Bunting became the first Modified winner at Delaware International in 2012. Fonda’s feature was taken by Stewart Friesen. Dave Thomas was the victor at Mahoning Valley. Rain stopped the action at Sharon and Mercer.

Craig Von Dohren won the Sunday feature at Big Diamond.

Monday Night Tidbits

We have a few tidbits for you.

Some Bridgeport Speedway news...

Bob Sarkisian was missing from action this past Saturday as he was having his motor freshened. Jimmy Chester will be racing at Bridgeport this year but is still waiting for his engine.

Jamie has sent me the following items...

Gary Mann is returning to modified racing after a hiatus. The Mann Motorsports #55 will be piloted by Jerry Higbie at the RoC Dirt North Tour and RoC Combo races. Also look for Higbie and the team to enter late-season specials, including Super DIRT Week. Mann's popular New York Truck Parts #55 has been piloted most recently by Gary Edwards and Mitch Gibbs.

Lance Willix, who won 2 features in 2011 at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, will take over driving duties of the 71 Motorsports modified for weekly competition at Glen Ridge. The 71 team had Jeremy Wilder in the car last season, and won a Glen Ridge championship in the past with Randy Hotaling.

Some results from Easter Weekend

Lots of Modified racing occurred this weekend throughout the Northeast. In the Garden State, Richie Pratt, Jr. wired the field to collect the win in the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature at Bridgeport Speedway. Billy Pauch, Sr. picked up the checkered flag at New Egypt Speedway.

In the Keystone State, Duane Howard recorded the win in the caution-free 30 lapper at Grandview Speedway. On Easter Sunday, a 40-lap open Modified at Big Diamond Speedway was won by Rick Laubach.

In the Empire State, Stewart Friesen led wire-to-wire to capture the 35-lapper at Glen Ridge’s opener on Friday night. On Saturday, Danny Johnson dominated the 2nd Annual Jan Corcoran Memorial at Canandaigua Motorsports Park to pick up the win in the Super DIRTcar series race. At Fonda’s Ice Jam, young Mike Mahaney surprised many with his victory in the 40-lap contest.

Fantasy League Option

Hey guys, just making a quick post because I see some people have been asking about a fantasy league for this year. A friend of mine, John Baumes, is in his second year of running a very cool fantasy league. Basically, there are 4 pools of drivers to choose from, and you must pick drivers from each pool to turn in an entry.

Unlike my fantasy leagues of the past, his is not free to enter, but he also has a whole lot more prizes to give away. An entry costs $25, but there are discounts if you get a few friends to enter with you (or you, yourself enter multiple times).

The impressive prize list is highlighted by $500 cash to the winner, while second and third are awarded $200 and $100. The top 7 at seasons end receive some sort of prizes including memorabilia, DVDs, 8 x 10 photos, free race tickets, and more. There are even prizes given out to the highest female player, and the highest finishing player under 18 years of age. The deadline to enter is this coming Saturday at noon. Here's the link to play...

http://www.dickdragonmotorsports.com/entry%20form.htm there are also links to the prize list and the main page of the website.

If you guys want, shoot me an e-mail if you enter, and we can bundle the entries under "Wago" so you guys can all get a nice discount to play. If we get 8 people to sign up it only costs $12.50 per entry. My e-mail is Jman97531@aol.com. Feel free to e-mail me if you guys have any questions as well.

Keep up the great work, Mike! Again, can't thank you enough for keeping this place alive.

More tracks are springing into action

It’s April and several more tracks spring into action this weekend. On Saturday, the 50th season of racing at Grandview Speedway gets underway at 7 p.m. The first Modified races at Mercer and Sharon for 2012 are also on the docket for Saturday. Bridgeport and New Egypt Speedways will be conducting their second races of the season.

On Easter Sunday, Big Diamond Speedway hosts a special card with $4000 going to the winner of the 40-lap Open Modified affair. The winner of this race gets a guaranteed starting spot in October's Short Track SuperNationals at Five Mile Point Speedway.

Plus as Jamie added in the chat box,  Canandaigua opens with the Super DIRTcar Series this weekend as well, and Fonda has the $4,000 to win Ice Jam.

This weekend's weather looks to be very good in the Northeast. Go out and support your local track!
