About a month ago I posted that it looked like there were big changes coming to Gypsum Racing in 2014. I saw someone asked for updates regarding the news on DirtTrackDigest.com, so here's a follow-up and update to that post.
The big news that was hinted at was in regards to Billy Decker and his future with Gypsum Racing. Decker has been disappointed with the in-house engine program that all the Gypsum Racing teams use, and had internal discussions about leaving the team at the conclusion of 2014.
Decker, who's been the face of the Gypsum Racing team for the past decade, has not yet decided on his plans for 2014 and technically remains a free agent. With that being said, the Gypsum team had a #91 car at last weekend's Parts Peddler, and the team is already preparing for 2014 in the race shop as if Decker will be there next season. We'll continue to track down updates, but right now it looks like the Gypsum/Decker combination will return in 2014. There will be no significant changes to the 42p and 99L Gypsum teams.
Mike Ricci will return to the seat of the Jamie Batzel J27 for this weekend's "Gobbler" at Accord Speedway. Ricci nearly pulled off a win aboard the Batzel machine in last month's Southern Tier 100 at Five Mile Point Speedway, ultimately settling for second. The Batzel team competed weekly with Brian Weaver at Five Mile Point Speedway, and notched a win. Since then the team has had a couple different drivers in their equipment for the end of the year shows.
