As the racing season continues to wind down, the weekend schedules become emptier. This past weekend, Five Mile Point Speedway was in the spotlight as the Southern Tier 100, which was the season finale for the RoC Dirt Tour, was the only race scheduled this weekend for the modifieds, but Mother Nature was the victor.
A threatening forecast forced management to postpone the event until this Saturday, November 9. However, due to the World Finals hosting the point finale for the Super DIRTcar Series that night, the Southern Tier 100 will now be a non-sanctioned event. The RoC Dirt Tour will wait to crown their 2013 champion until April of 2014--when the modifieds make their season debut at the 1/4 mile. Stewart Friesen has a comfortable lead over Matt Sheppard in the standings.
The BRP Tour crowned their 2012 champion in March of this year after the Saturday portion of the Steal City Stampede was postponed (the Fight-qualifying portion of the event was run on schedule last October which led to the strange circumstance). Brian Weaver ultimately won the title.
