Tracks Looking towards '14; Paine Lands Ride; SDW Update

The big news over the past week has been Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. The facility has all-but-announced that Mike Sowle, who has put up big money at quite a few facilities this year, will join the current staff as the new promotor. Sowle has been told both Race Pro Weekly and modified columnist Tom Boggie that Glen Ridge will switch to Sunday nights in 2013, and will operate under DIRTcar-sanction.

Another track announcing big changes and looking to go DIRTcar-sanctioned is Can Am Motorsports Park. The track has been purchased by a new group of investors, and the plan is to bring the modifieds back as a headline class and run under the DIRTcar banner. Can Am did not host a single modified race in '13.

Speaking of DIRTcar, they struggled for a few years but have been enjoying a rejuvination over the last few years. Along with Glen Ridge and Can Am coming on board with DIRT-sanctioning, look for an announcement to come during Super DIRT Week in regards to a surprising edition to the 2014 Super DIRTcar Series schedule.

Thunder Mountain Speedway appears to also being experiencing some change. There's a group looking to purchase the Southern Tier property, and also bring back the modifieds as the headliner. Modifieds have not ran at Thunder Mountain weekly since 2011. The only scheduled appearance for the modifieds this year was cancelled.

Mountain Speedway has announced they'll host another dirt-modified race this Sunday, September 29th. This will be Mountain Speedway's third modified event of the year (first 2 won by Mark Levy and Aleia Geisler) as they look into the possibility of running the class weekly in 2014.

Look for a "new" tour to be announced in the off-season. The tour will not run in competition with DIRTcar or RoC, and in fact will include both a RoC and a Super DIRTcar Series event on it's schedule.

Woodhull Raceway's biggest star, Billy Van Pelt, will not be in action for the track's biggest race which takes place this Saturday. Van Pelt will be in Florida, but has announced that Steve Paine will pilot Van Pelt's car at Woodhull this weekend.
