Howard and Wight win big; More champions Crowned

Duane Howard survived a crazy night at Big Diamond Raceway to collect the $10,000 Coalcracker 100. The race capped off a big weekend for Howard, on Saturday night, Howard picked up a win at Grandview Speedway which ended up being worth another extra $10,000, as the win clinched him the American Racer Cup championship. Howard has also clinched Grandview Speedway's small block modified championship, and won $10,000 at Grandview's Forrest Rogers Memorial this year. With some more big races coming up, Howard's certainly having another year to remember.

Larry Wight became the youngest ever Super Dirt Series winner as he got around Alan Johnson early in the event and cruised to a $6,000 win at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Sunday night.

Big congratulations goes to Steve Paine, with his win Friday night at Can Am, he now has 300 career modified wins. Congratulations to The Hurricane!

Other champions were crowned this past weekend, Mohawk International Speedway crowned Carey Terrance champion, and they also crowned Todd Stone American Revolution Mini-Series champion. Five Mile Point crowned Stewart Friesen champion, Orange County crowned Jerry Higbie champion, Brett Hearn won Lebanon Valley's big and small block championships, Jimmy Phelps picked up the Brewerton Speedway track championship, Billy Dunn repeats at Can Am Motorsports Park champion, JaMike Sowle wins the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park championship. Chad Cook won the championship at the newly re-opened I-88 Speedway, at Fulton Speedway Jimmy Phelps won his 2nd championship of the year, Steve Paine added another Canandaigua Speedway championship to his resume, Yan Bussiere won the Drummondville title, Rex King claimed the Sharon Speedway championship, Patrick Dupree reclaimed the Airborne Speedway track title, Stewart Friesen continued his amazing season by claiming the Utica Rome Speedway championship, Mike Bowman won the Humberstone Speedway championship by just 1 point for his first career small block title, Pete Bicknell continued his dominant career with another Merrittville title, Todd Burley continued his streak of Ransomville Speedway championships, and Matt Sheppard picked up the Cayuga County Fair Speedway championship.

Granby, Albany Saratoga, Accord, Penn Can, Mercer, Delaware, New Egypt, Bridgeport, Sportsmans, and Mahoning Valley will crown their champions over the next few weeks.

Also, per Dirt Track Digest, Brian Stevens announced at Humberstone Speedway that he ran his last race last night. Stevens has been one of the top drivers in northern New York/southern Canada over the last 35 years. We'll miss seeing the #44 modified on the track, and we wish Brian the best in his future!
