Brian Swarthout Racing announced on DirtVision's chatroom tonight that they will field a car for Alan Johnson in this year's Rite-Aid 200. Swarthout, a regular at Canandaigua Speedway, competed on the mile last year with a big block and a small block, and was thinking about going to Syracuse this year with a big block, small block, and a sportsman. No word on whether or not Swarthout will run Syracuse at all this year, or just field a car for Johnson.
Alan Johnson started the year off with a car self-owned between himself and Wallace Stacey, when that car was finished off, Jake Spraker returned to the sport as a car owner and fielder a car for Johnson. Johnson stated in a recent article in Gater Racing News that if Alan didn't find a ride, he would not attend Super Dirt Week at all. Johnson start and parked at Syracuse in 2007 and 2008, and ran his own equipment in last year's addition of the fall classic, but struggled to find speed all week and eventually dropped out with engine problems. No word on whether or not Johnson will also be entered with the team for the Salute to the Troops 150.
Also, Todd Stone and Tommy Flannigan have confirmed that they will be racing at Syracuse in the small block division this year. Expect a sportsman star to make their 358 debut on the mile at Syracuse this year as well, stay tuned.
