I collected plenty of tidbits to share with you guys walking around the pits Friday and Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. Here's what I collected...
Dale Planck will run, "only American Racer" events this season. Which means he won't be following the Super Dirt Series this season. Planck will run Fulton Speedway but the team hasn't decided what the rest of their weekends will look like, but they're looking at possibly running both Brewerton Speedway on Friday nights and Utica Rome Speedway on Sunday nights. Planck will also run as many late model races as possible with the Rez-X Racing late model the team has recently purchased. Planck doesn't plan on following the entire RoC Tour, but will support some of their races.
Ryan Phelps is another driver that ran the Super Dirt Series that might not follow the tour this season. He stated that John Wight will make the ultimate decision on whether or not he runs the tour, but he finds it unlikely. He'll run weekly at Brewerton and Fulton and will run select Dirt Series and RoC Tour events.
Larry Soloman, who returned to modified racing after being out of the car for a few years in September, and was very impressive both days at Selinsgrove with his #517 small block modified, is looking at running Delaware International Speedway or Grandview Speedway weekly on Saturday nights.
Rich Scagliotta will move over to Canandaigua Speedway for weekly competition with his former home tracks, Brewerton and Fulton switching to American Racers. Scagliotta also will once again follow the Super Dirt Series.
Danny Creeden used the brand new Teo that his uncle purchased for him at the Part's Peddler auction in big block competition at Selinsgrove Speedway. Creeden didn't have time to get the car lettered, so he used the paint scheme seen at the Part's Peddler, with one small change. Creeden added the letters "RC" in front of the #1 to pay tribute to his late father, Rusty Creeden. Creeden will run the car the first few weeks at Orange County, as the 11 team he runs for at Orange County won't have their motor ready in time for the opener. Creeden struggled with all kinds of issues with the motor and engine, and ended up running his #16x small block in the feature. Creeden will run the same schedule in 2011 as he did in 2010, Accord on Fridays, Orange County on Saturdays, and the entire RoC Dirt Tour.
Youngster Rob Bellinger, who has quickly turned into one of the top drivers in the northeast, plans on running for the Rookie of the Year title on the Super Dirt Series tour. Bellinger will plans on running the entire RoC Dirt Tour. Bellinger's Friday night home, Can Am Motorsports Park, switched from big blocks to small blocks, so he'll only run Canandaigua Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway weekly this season.
Wade Hendrickson may do some URC sprint racing later this year.
Tommy Scheetz will run Grandview Speedway weekly with the announcement that Bridgeport won't have modifieds weekly this season. His father, Tom Scheetz Sr., ran Tommy's back up car Saturday at Selinsgrove.
Billy VanInwegen ran Jeremy Markle's #313 small block on Friday night, and his own family owned #23 big block on Saturday. "Billy V" will run weekly at Orange County Fair Speedway, but hopes to do more traveling this season. He said he hopes to do more traveling this season, and his team is already prepping for their first assault on the SEF 200 at Super Dirt Week.
Jason Rood will only run Sunday nights at Utica Rome Speedway, but the 18J team plans on putting another driver in the car for Friday nights at Brewerton Speedway.
Gary Tomkins, who recently landed the ride in the Ray Tuit 673 after Jerry Higbie left the team, will also run for Ken Brewer again this season. Brewer was looking to sell the team, but didn't find a buyer, so will run his stuff for 2011. Brewer and Tomkins have yet to decide what races they'll run.
Neil Huber, Mike Gular, and Kyle Weiss were all planning on racing Saturday night but didn't. Huber blew his motor Friday night, Gular destroyed the JSG Motorsports car, and Kyle Weiss was going to run Danny Creeden's 16x but felt the car was too beat up to run competitively after Friday's race.
Kyle Weiss, who was planning on only doing picking and choosing races this year, has recently decied he'll run weekly at Grandview Speedway Saturday nights. He still plans on doing traveling this year as well, and it most excited about running Lincoln Speedway in July. Weiss will run a small block modified all year, but plans on attempting Super Dirt Week with his dirt legal sportsman. He'd like to run a small block, but doesn't have a DIRT Legal 358 motor, and can't afford the extra tire money.
Friday night winner, Jeff Strunk, won a guaranteed starting spot to the Victoria 100 at Utica Rome Speedway with his win on Friday, which is also the third race on the RoC Dirt Tour schedule, and has confirmed he'll be at the Utica Rome race. Strunk currently plans on running the entire RoC Tour schedule.
Mike Gular had planned on following the RoC Tour with the JSG Motorsports #3G team, but with the hard crash on Friday, he's changed those plans. Gular will run Friday and Saturday nights with the new Eastern Rigging/Fastnacht Racing #53 team. He'll run Penn Can on Fridays and Grandview on Saturdays.
Todd Burley was a surprise entrant at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night, and had a great run going until overheating problems sent him pit side. Burley will also run this Saturday's RoC Dirt Tour event at New Egypt Speedway in the Rick Clay Racing #88c big block modified normally driven by Billy Pauch Jr. Pauch Jr will be racing at Lincoln Speedway with his 358 sprint, which is why he'll miss the race at New Egypt. Burley is a former New Egypt regular back when he was driving for Todd Bashore.
Dale Planck was light by 24 pounds, and Pat Ward was light by 20 pounds on Saturday. Both drivers blamed all the caution laps for the weight issues due to burning fuel.
Randy Chrystler, Danny Tyler, Brett Hearn, and Rick Laubach all were DQed from qualifying spots Friday night due to weight or carb issues.
